Quick report for July 23-29

Postby OKwereback » Thu Aug 11, 2011 10:49 pm

3rd visit and did not disapoint. Resort is still fabulous and service still great. But most of all so, as ever are all the great couples we met. That is what will keep us coming back.

Airport
Quick through immigration. Last year was a nightmare, but seemed to have more staff this year.

Transport
Used Olympus. On time and we were the first drop off. A little oh you're going to Desire, very nice yes! Nudge nudge wink wink from the driver amused the other passengers going to other resorts.

Arrival
Usual friendly greeting, fast check in and the room was ready. Some fairly hard sell on a presentation for repeat guests which we did not attend. Talking with others who did we understood that the resort wants to make itself exclusive to those who take out some sort of timeshare that they can then sell on weeks to others if they don't use them. Anyone know if this the case ? Understand why they may be trying to do this as they no longer have any risk of empty rooms. But a 25 year commitment for us would be beyond what even Levitra can do.

Beach
This is where we spend a lot of our time during the day. Seems like they have halted the erosion with some sort of break and lot of sand. All bookable beach beds already taken this year though. Are they letting people book them in advance. With fair skin we really need a bed with shade. Why not make more or all of the beds shaded ? Would work for us. Perhaps not for the tanners though.
Great beach bed drink service from Afrika as ever.

Rooms
We had an ocean view, 2201. Rooms are clean cool and comfortable. Perfect for the only two main things we do in them.

Pool
We don't spend a lot of time at the pool, but the time we did saw the staff making sure everyone had a great time.

The wildlife (not wild life !)
Raccoons, Coati Mundi as ever roaming the site looking for scraps. More cats than previous years but not obtrusive or a problem. The land crabs were a new feature for us this year. And finally the bugs. Oh the bugs ! Take plenty of repellent. We didn't and it's not a mistake we'll make again in July.

Service
The service at desire has always been fabulous for us. We tip because we really appreciate their hard work and enthusiasm. Considering what is often going around them, their discretion and professionalism is outstanding.

Entertainment
Did not seem ad good as last year. Eyes Wide Shut just did not happen. Not sure what went wrong.

The Disco
As always fun, both on the dance floor an the back room. But the DJ really needs to recognize that there is fairly broad age range. A little variety would be appreciated. We can dance to thump thump thump, just don't want to. He does take requests though, so if you want to dance to something just ask. Please, though someone give him a copy of Porn Star Dancing.

Hot tub
Everyone knows the hot tub. Only change is that the curtains have gone from the beds. Makes for much nicer view.

The food
We've always enjoyed the food at Desire. Great variety and we've never had a tummy problem. (which is not the case in other parts of Mexico we've traveled)

The Emergency Room
Would rather not have to report here, but we can tell you that there is a great emergency room at the hospital in Cancun where should you need it, you will receive prompt and professional care.

The guests
Last but not least the guests. We've met movie stars and mechanics, retirees and writers, body builders and house builders, all at Desire, and to a man and woman they are some of the greatest people we've ever had the privilege to meet. Maybe it's something about people who are willing to discard the clothing that hides us from each other, but whether they were wild swingers or naturists, they have all left us a little better for the experience. So to all those we met on this vacation and those before at Desire, live, love, laugh and thank you.

So if you met the English American couple that week (where he, the bald guy, ended up in the emergency room from of all things a bug bite !), it was great to meet you all and thank you so much for making our vacation something we'll never forget.

Already planning next trip, but don't think we'll manage to wait a whole year.

Don't know. Not a Mossie or Deerfly. Had a few of those. I'm sure it was not something dangerous, it was just my violent allergic reaction to it.

We were there from Jul 23-28, my wife was bitten by a bug that gave her a reaction the size of a egg. It was puffy, red, and itchy. Never had that in the previous 6 trips. We spoke with some resort employees and from what we remember, it was some sort of horse fly.

Just take plenty of repellent. Resort is next to a swamp, so not surprising. But the good far outweighs that. Wonder if e met ?

Don't think we met but we remember hearing about a guest having to go to the doctor because of a bugs. We were the couple that won the dance contest during the evening entertainment, you may have seen my wife in the disco, she was wearing the glow contacts.
