This summary is very much from a European perspective but it may give some North American readers a flavour of what differences they might expect in Europe on a similar kind of vacation.

Firstly we are familiar with the whole Cancun/Mexican experience so that was not a surprise, what was a surprise to us was just how liberating the Desire experience was compared to other parts of Cancun. In Europe it is common to go topless on virtually all beaches and in France and Spain there are hundreds of nude beaches. Our prior experience of Cancun was that anything other than a full bikini (both parts) or a swim suit was very much frowned on. So the very essence of Desire was liberating in that sense.

We travelled to Desire to get married naked on the beach – and we did just that. It was our rock and roll wedding and everything about was fantastic including the people who came along to watch. We have great pictures and great memories and we would not change a thing if we could do it all over again.

Anyway on to the details

Tipping. The web site states that tipping is included but we are aware that people tip anyway – this confused us a bit and we were never quite sure what to do. Tipping for every kind of service is uncommon in Europe, only very good service and if you see a sign that says tips are included then generally you don’t tip. Hence our confusion!

Seriously though - great report and I'd agree with the Europe vs US perspective, but that's just because in Europe we bend over for stuff the Americans would refuse to accept. Service (except Walmart) is better throughout the US.

One "negative" for them is the obsession they have with naked flesh. In Germany it's not unusual to see work coleagues strip off together in the parks at lunchtime. Some Americans seem to think that could lead to the fall of civilization

We went virtually straight to cap d'agde after desire and cap d'agde is more hard core and it is sexier in so many ways - like a two mile long all nude beach, naked foam parties ... etc etc.

But really for a sensual and comfortable environment where you get great service - Desire is unbeatable.

It really shocked us in France to be restricted to two threadbare towels by the pool and NO room service at all for the whiole week - ie week old sheets, towels etc. The sumptuoyus luxury of having a daily room and towel service at Desire was - well - just great.

Also the price of drinks in Cap d'agde is extraordinarily expensive now. No chance for a pub crawl unless you have VERY deep pockets!

Ah cap d'agde - I know that sort of stuff goes on there, but I don't really agree with it because it is a FAMILY resort too.

Why people would take their kids there when there's a good chance of them seeing PDAs is beyond me - perhaps it's a French thing

Goodness knows what our US cousins would make of the French "system" where you are expected to strip the beds and clean your appartment ready for the next guests before you leave

Lol it sounds like you stayed at Jardin D'Eden!!! That just about sums it up.. oh except for the grumpy bar staff!! Still, it is something else!

There is a well defined area for PDA's / PDS's and for the families.. that said the whole resort of Cap has an underlying sexual tension and we would not have even thought about taking our kids there...

Cap, however, is quite an experience.. and well worth the effort to get there.. service might not be great, but the people and atmosphere more than make up for it.. it's what you make it..
