Trip Report Sept. 20 - 27, 2011

Postby gsil668 » Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:37 pm

This was our third trip to Desire and the best so far!

We booked a gardenview room and decided to upgrade to oceanview once we got there. We were in room 2203, on the first floor. The room was large with a spacious vanity and shower large enough for 2 or maybe even 3. A welcome change was the large drawers, getting organized was so much easier this year. The room also had a dehumidifier that kept the room comfortable. The cleanliness was as always top notch with no complaints. They did a great job even after we spilled candle wax everywhere....oopps

We celebrated our anniversary and were sent cake and champagne to our room, which was a pleasant surprise. They made sure we had everything we needed and more.

The resort during our stay was very very quiet, I don't know what the occupancy rate was but the first afternoon we went up to the jacuzzi around 5:30 and there was no one there except the staff. It picked up a little over the weekend but was still quieter than our previous 2 trips. That being said there were no negatives with the service or variety of food. What keeps bringing us back is the way we are treated by the staff, there isn't much that you ask for that you can't get. They are always ready with a smile to try to make your trip the best ever.

They did take the opportunity to do some work on the jacuzzi during this quiet period. I was closed on our last night. They did convert the a section of the pool area into a play area with the jacuzzi beds. The area was curtained off, they had an artist come in and paint beautiful murals on the curtains. They really did a good job in creating a new sexxy play area.

The only things we found needed a bit of work was adding some fans in the lobby lounge area. The heat and humidity during our week was close to unbearable on some nights. We are not ones to usually complain about the heat but it was really toooo hot. We also found the air conditioning in the disco was not cool enough.

We will be back to visit as soon as we can fit it into our schedules.

Great trip report and we're so glad you had a good time. Since we are not party animals by any means, September 2012 might be a good time for us to visit this resort again. Thanks for posting!!

Thanks for taking the time to post a trip report.

Question: did they convert a section of the pool area into a play area just while the jacuzzi was down for repair? Or is this a permanent change?
A "play area" around the pool might be kinda fun!

Thanks.

The area around the pool was set up in place of the hot tub during maintenance. It won't be permanent, especially since it was put in the area where the Premier Members (lol) have a small area set up near the Japanese restaurant. Also, the area displaced a lot of lounge chairs, and if the resort was full, this wouldn't be a popular change probably.

Although we thought the area was put together very nicely, not too many people seemed to be using it. But that could have something to do with the fact that occupancy seemed fairly low during that time.

Is that still in use? - we had one of the round double beds there every day and we weren't premium. We didn't specifically ask for there, we just asked for somewhere with a bit of shade. It wasn't until half way through the week that we saw the sign

Great trip review. I for one thing as many play areas as possible... Anyway thanks for asking and getting that cleared up Botomsup.my next question is about the themes. We have another thread on the go and it has come up that they have replaced eyes wide shut with a five senses theme. Just wondering of you had experienced this change or had any information/ opinions about this. Thought I'd ask since you just returned. Thanks.

The week we were there EWS was replaced by Epic Night, Toga, Egyptian etc and it was not a popular theme night. I think only 2-3 couples were in costume. During the whole week participation was pretty low for the themes, the most popular was lingerie and school girl.

I'd suggest that's because (from the list you gave) only lingerie & school girl are "original" themes. People can't just conjour up costumes - they need to plan well in advance if they are to take part. Difficult to do when the themes keep changing
