6th trip, January 19 - 24, 2013

Postby Whoneedssunscreencpl » Wed Jan 30, 2013 6:26 pm

Recently returned from our 6th trip to Desire RM. We were there Jan. 19 - 24th and as always, had a wonderful time. Looks like a few of the other folks who were there at the same time have already posted some great, detailed trip reports! I'll try not to duplicate too much of what they've said already. Our most recent trip prior to this was June 2012 so I'll also try to mention what's new since then.

Arrived on Saturday afternoon and decided we are not traveling on Saturdays again. Seems to be by far the busiest day at the Cancun airport and it took quite a while to get through customs and immigration. By now we are quite comfortable scooting past the the sharks on the way out (as Cesar Millan would say--"No touch, no talk, no eye contact!"--works just as well for timeshare folks as it does for dogs). Used USA-Transfers to get to the resort and as always, they were fantastic. Friendly, bilingual drivers and always prompt. Cheaper than a lot of the other alternatives as well and you get a private car or van and they never pressure you to schedule other tours or outings like other companies do.

Check-in was smooth and we headed to our room, 1911, right behind the lobby bar. (We did not get offered a "lifestyle" bracelet but did see a few couples wearing them around the resort) Room was remodeled with much more dresser storage and the fridge is in an elevated armoire. Battled some water temp/pressure problems but overall were happy with the room. And the fridge was actually cold! After many many trips to Mexico this was the first time we actually had cold beer in the room. This is one of those dangerous rooms, though, with the step up to the bed and then another step up to the bathroom. Almost took a few tumbles in the middle of the night and did stub a couple of toes. Also luckily I am hard of hearing because the noise from the folks enjoying the lobby bar does go on all night long. Also had to keep the balcony door shut because the raccoons do visit this building and roof often!!

Had quite a bit of rain and clouds during our stay which was a major bummer. When the sun is out, we are pool people. There are new loungers around the pool which are pretty cheap plastic and much less comfortable than the old ones, unfortunately. They were plentiful, though, so unlike the last few trips, we didn't have to jump out of bed at 7 a.m. to get chairs. That was in part due to I think there being a few more chairs than before but also, the resort was quite empty.

One bad thing: got TONS of bites all over our legs as did many of the other guests. Still don't know where the bugs were coming from but they were nasty this time. Bug bites are not sexy.

Regarding the occupancy rate, we heard everything from 50% full to 70% full quoted but I would have placed it at the lower end. We have usually been at Desire RM between April and September in the past so we don't know what January usually feels like but others who had been there in previous Januarys said it was much emptier than usual. Made us wonder if there just aren't enough of us folks to keep both RM and Pearl occupied. (We need to recruit more nudists/swingers to support these resorts!!!) Despite the low occupancy, the crowd was still very fun and friendly and we met nice people from all over the US and other countries. Age range was late 20's to early 70's with most in their 40's or 50's I'd guess. There were no takeover groups there this time, which I think does affect the mood of the place. Overall, it was much quieter and less wild and kinky than we've seen when takeover groups are there. There were very few body shots at the hot tub and not much whoopin' and hollerin'. Depending on what you're in the mood for, this is either good or bad! Interestingly, the neighboring resorts were MUCH busier than we've seen in the past and there was quite a lot of textiled/vanilla foot traffic on the beach.

Food remains good. It's certainly not why we go there but it's adequate. They only had two out of three restaurants open each night. The breakfast was served outside next to the pool. Not sure if this is going to stay that way or not but we liked it. Suki's menu was a little different this time and we thought not as tasty as on prior trips. Much better sushi at home. The white restaurant is still our favorite and love the beef carpaccio, the lobster bisque, and the chocolate volcano cake. The caesar salad was good, too.

Evening entertainment was good and fun, same acts we had seen before for the most part but entertaining. We dressed for the theme nights but very few other folks did. : ( I think there was also some confusion about the correct themes, too, as they are changing 2/1 but Desire had already posted the new ones on their website. Ladies still did a good job with the slutwear, though!

LOVE the remodel of the disco. Floor is lit up like Saturday Night Fever and much bigger than before. Still elevated but not as high so I didn't see any ankle sprains this time! Stripper pole is off to the side, which is good, too.

Playroom seemed the same as in June. Since the beds at the hot tub were soaked with rain a lot of the time, the playroom was pretty busy. Often was a wait for a bed. Weird aside--I have never seen so much anal porn on those tv's before. Apparently a lot of folks must like that but I found it a turnoff. Saw some swapping and group play but again, not as much as on some prior trips. We weren't opposed to playing with others but weren't really seeking it out either so Hub and I just played with each other. We are soft, vacation lifestylers at most and were happy to just have some sexy, romantic time together.

Overall another great trip. Don't have our next one planned yet but we will most certainly be back! Next time will plan probably in spring or summer and no Saturday travel!

Enjoyed reading your trip report and meeting the "Suncreens" in person.

Loved your quote from Cesar Milan re the "hounds" at Cancun Airport - we also just put our heads down and made a beeline for the exit, so managed to "escape". We also arrived on a Saturday (previous week) and it was pretty busy getting through - something to avoid, if possible, for future. Agree it would have been nice to have had more sunshine, but I guess that is always going to be hit and miss.

Nice theme-night outfits, btw!

Amen to that. Also, the current setup of the playroom makes it more difficult to see what's going on all around you. Which is a shame.

Thanks! Shopping for the theme night outfits is half the fun. :D

Well, unfortunately, the others who were there with us that week will easily know why we were watching the tv instead of one particular, highly visible NONSTOP coupling. Let's just say that the "to hair or not to hair" debate was being carried by the hirsute side with these two...

Ha, I know exactly what you are referring to. We were also there 19-23, and I agree, bug bites were pretty bad, never had a problem with them on previous visits
