We just arrived home from our first trip to our new home in Cancun. FUN ! !
The staff are amazing and the wife said they all made her feel like a queen. I agree, they did little things for her that were just plain kind. In the dining room for breakfast or dinner Roberto(and his Spanish lessons) and Julian never let her carry anything to our table, by the pool Sylvia kept her hydrated and comfortable in the loungers that Daniel made sure was hers every day, at the lobby bar Carlos, Miguel and Gabriela and at the pool bar William always had big smiles for her, often hilarious conversations and her drink of choice memorized. In the disco, she found Ines would take a couple minutes every nite for smiles, a couple of words, and a brief merengue with her. Carla and Cesar by the pool were also fave Desire staffers of hers.
The guests? Awesome. Such kindness, fun and hilarity. They made my wife feel comfortable and it seemed like we knew everyone we had met for years. Hot-tub-o'clock with these folks was epic.
You're thinking by now that there must be cons. You're right, there is. First off, we were "befriended" on our second day by a couple that thought that first time visitors and newbies means stupid and naive. Turns out his wife is a gem and he is a dink and if no means no and women are respected, then this guy really is a hypocrite and shouldn't have gotten huffy and petulant when the bait wasn't taken. The second con? A week isn't long enough. Third, it really is creepy to have a fully clothed (t-shirt, shorts, and shoes) guy by the pool every single freaking day. Regardless if the guy runs a tour group, its just plain bad optics.
If you're thinking of going, do it. Go.
