May 9th - 18th 2009 with the WWW/Ynots & Hot Tamales

Desire- May 9 – 18 , 2009

We’ll start by apologizing in advance for the length of this report. Even though this was the 15th Desire visit for Barbara and I, it was unique in many ways and there are many events that affected the trip that we want to mention.

The build up:
Actually the build up for this trip started a year ago after the Ynot’s group’s 2008 Desire trip. Shortly after that very successful trip we learned that for 2009 we would be re-joining Dennyp’s WWW group (where the Ynots started) and that we would be sharing the resort for the week with the Hot Tamales group. Between the agents for these two group we had 105 rooms reserved for the week- a virtual takeover. Dozens of these rooms were booked last summer, and by the end of 2008 – even with the economy in the tank- only a few rooms remained available. The Ynots and Hot Tamales each opened their yahoo groups to the others members, and there were literally thousands of posts by excited members planning for the trip and just having fun building anticipation.

The great conspiracies:
Ok- so they weren’t actually conspiracies aimed at ruining our trip. But at times it felt that way ! Just as the last of the rooms were being sold early in the year there was the great “Mexico violence scareâ€

Hi Mike and Barbara

Thanks for the great trip report - so jealous and so miserable to have missed this trip - we thought about you all every day and felt such heels - we were in Jamaica (GLB) and it was all really nice but it just wasn't Desire and we missed it so much and all the regulars at GLB kept asking us if we enojyed GLB more and we couldn't lie... there was a great crowd there (met Poolman there) but it just wasn't the same and wasn't what we had been looking forward to for the previous few months....

Anyway, re the expansion plans - we're a little disappointed that they will be building a new pool and jacuzzi lounge rather rather than extending the existing one or building bigger and then filling in the existing ones as we like the closeness etc of the resort and the fact that you get to meet most people there and we worry that this will fragment the resort with two pools and two jacuzzis - what do others think about this? Or do you, Barbara and Mike have any further info on this?

BTW already confirmed for Sept 09 and May 2010 so will see you all then!

Hello Gordon & Michelle. We did miss you two ! But we'll see you in September.
Wayne & I did voice that exact same sentiment about "splitting" the resort. They indicated that they are aware of and sensitive to that concern and are still looking at possibilities.Again though nothing is final till the permits are approved and they actually start. But it sounds like the change was made from the original plans because it was going to be extremely difficult to continue in operation and give the guests the kind of Desire vacation they expect during the year of construction if they went the other way.
We'll just have to check back in September and see
what they have settled on then.

Read the report and thought it was interesting about the new plans for update/construction in the coming year. We had wondered HOW they were going to keep building around the guests, especially with the part about expanding the pool area. Perhaps their new idea is the best solution to keep in operation and expand at the same time. It may be a bit more spread out, but it could be a lot of FUN to "try out" all the different pool/jacuzzi venues or at least alternate for several days of the vacation!

sure glad you guys had a great time!! I know that flu sure got alot of people's panties in a knot! The flu is always out there, it will always be out there, and it seems that everyone kinda lost their minds on this one...oh well.. We will be going again in October.... oooohh hurricane season....oooo... lol.. Glad you went and showed all those scaredy cats! See you in October!
