I am not one for reviewing or recapping but reading the reviews on another travel site was a deciding factor in booking at DRM. In hopes that this helps some other couple's vacation planning here goes...

A little background on us: happily married committed couple with absolutely no exposure to lifestyle events or people in the lifestyle (that we know of).
Over the Christmas holidays my wife and I decided that we would get away for a weekend in April and she asked that I find someplace to go. Given it was an opportunity for just us to get away, we were looking for a place that was focused on adults. Las Vegas, New Orleans, and the like were were all in the mix until Google introduced me to Desire Riviera Maya. The reviews sounded good but to be honest the idea of a resort full of naked swingers was a little intimidating. I asked my wife what she thought of the idea of a clothing optional resort and in the spirit of at least trying it out, I went ahead and booked. She didn't want to know any further details about the place (including the name) as she thought it would just make her anxious. I have to admit, the thought of being average people in a resort full of athletic gym rats did cross my mind many times over the coming months.

After booking the rooms I learned about the different theme nights which I have to admit seemed a little overwhelming. What does one wear to dress to impress? A little searching brought me to the forums here and a treasure trove of information. Info on what to pack, what to wear and details about all the other things that went on at the club. I have to admit this made me think twice about going. I wondered what she would think about all this. I figured the worst case would still be a a great vacation: swimming in the ocean, dining out, and great sex in our hotel room. With that I booked the airfare, joined the accompanying Yahoo group and looked forward to a fun get away.

In the weeks leading up to the trip I checked in occasionally on the forum and Yahoo group looking for any tips. The day before leaving my wife texted me:
"What's the name of the resort or should I just wait and be surprised?"
Turns out she had been looking around and saw a Youtube video of the place.
There was some concern about the first rule being no meant no. Did that mean there would be people touching her uninvited? Did it mean constantly having to say no? The firm rule made was that where were to be no other people.
She wondered about the clothes she packed and didn't think there were disco appropriate outfits. She ran to the store and was texting outfits asking what I thought. By the end she was happy with how things came together and I couldn't wait to see her in them. Mind you these outfits were appropriate for dancing and dining at any other resort and would certainly fail miserably the "can it fit through your wedding ring test". She really liked how they looked, felt comfortable in them and was looking forward to dining and dancing. This was definitely starting off better than being freaked out about what awaited.

We were off! The flight was pretty easy and there were tasty drinks to erase any jitters. It occurred to us that we would be arriving later in the evening and that reservations were required for the Teppenyaki at the Suki restaurant. During our layover I called the hotel seeing if I could make the required reservation. The fact that we didn't have a room number yet seemed to complicate things and I'll admit I was getting a little frustrated when someone confirmed our reservation without any info at all (no name, no room number, nothing). I called back and it was a completely different experience when they connected me with Arturo one of the butlers. He told me he would take care of it and to call back in 5 minutes. 8 minutes later I called back, was quickly connected to Arturo and sure enough he let me know reservations were all set under my name. I hung up knowing that Arturo single-handedly redeemed the place in terms of excellent customer service.

The flight to Cancun was nice and relaxing (the Moscow Mules helped). Arriving at Cancun was pretty straightforward. The lady at immigration seemed like the most unhappy person on earth for whatever reason and then it was on to customs. The lady asked my wife to push the red button and something lit up sending us to a more detailed inspection. They opened our luggage and went through some of it. I can see how bringing a toy collection along could be a little embarrassing for some after this encounter.

We booked the ground transportation in advance so I was expecting a guy holding a sign with my name. No such luck. A quick question to one of the official looking guys was all it took. He took us to the place we needed to wait, found our driver and we were on our way. Our driver was professional but not overly talkative. There was a turn off the main road, a check to make sure we belonged and then a drive down the long narrow road to the ocean. Once again there was a check to make sure we were a registered guest before letting the vehicle onto the resort grounds. Having read some of the previous posts I wasn't surprised that the outside didn't have that resort look and feel but that changes when stepping into the main lobby.

We were quickly greeted and offered a seat at the check-in desk. The lobby wasn't large but it was very well maintained. While the nice lady was preparing our paperwork I did a quick look around. At the other end of the lobby was the gateway to the outside area that hosts the Lobby Bar. 3 things immediately caught my eye:
1. The other couple checking in was older. Worry #1 of being the oldest couple was gone.
2. There was a naked guy standing at the gateway door with the whole world to see. He was absolutely normal, not displaying 6 pack abs and toned pecs that I thought may adorn all men there except me. Worry #2 gone.
3. There was a sofa in the back corner with 2 women and a guy fully clothed. One of the women was outlining the other's nipples with her finger tips. You can probably guess that this was something I never worried about seeing.

Check-in was quick and the staff was very friendly. I kept waiting for the membership pitch but it never came. One of the employees asked us to meet him out in the courtyard and he'll take our luggage to the room. We booked a Garden View room and although I had seen a map of the resort I couldn't place where we were being led. We walked past the stairs to the Jacuzzi across the front to the stairs on the other end of the building. It was getting a little dark by this time which in hindsight probably was a good introduction as first timers. There were a few naked people on the way to the room but the introduction to it all was entirely manageable.

I wish I remembered the name of the gentleman who brought our bags up. He went over all the details of our room. A few things worth pointing out is that there is room service ($8 surcharge) and the fridge is stocked with beer, soda, and bottled water.

We decided to go for a swim in the pool. We didn't learn until the next day that the pool closed at 6PM so the 2 of us stripped down and swam alone for 20 mins or so. Looking back I think we intruded on the couple who paid extra for the beach front dining. We saw plenty of staff cleaning up the area and no one said anything at all so maybe it was because we were being quiet. It was very refreshing! It was then off to the room enjoy some 1 on 1 time and then get ready for dinner reservations at Suki.

The restaurant was nicely decorated and had a large group of diners (~15 people?) at the center table having lots of fun. The hibachi grill was at the back so we were led back to our seats. The grill sat 6 and another couple was already there. We made some conversation but primarily focused on each other. The dining experience was great I only wish I was hungrier. The chef put on a great show and the food was delicious.

With that we retired for the night. Just kidding!

We decided to take a walk on the beach and cut down the outside sidewalk by the pool beds that led to the beach. As we walked past one the beds I could see a naked guy on top of a woman no more than 5 feet away. Definitely a surprise. We continued to the beach and strolled through the sand. It was a beautiful night, the sound of the water and not a soul around. We made our way to the Lobby Bar and had a few drinks while we watched the music entertainment. The lady singing was definitely talented and the dancers were entertaining. A number of the guests were dancing and having a great time. The attire was a broad spectrum. If you, like I was, are stressing about what to bring to wear....stop. There were people in jeans and a top, people in masquerade outfits, lingerie. Everyone looked perfectly comfortable with what they chose to wear. I will say that there was a tall lady dancing with her pants strategically tailored so that her ass cheeks were completely exposed. She was definitely drawing attention! I had to smile when my wife leaned over and said "I would wear those".

We learned there's a general flow the larger crowd follows pool, hot tub, dinner, bar, disco, hot tub but it was nice being out of step at times. Even though the resort was booked full, it never felt overly crowded. While others were off to the disco we decided to check out the Jacuzzi. Back to the room to change out of evening clothes and into a cover-up for her and I think shorts and shirt for me. It was quick trip up to the Jacuzzi. There was a group of 4 playing all naked on one of the beds. I could tell my wife was curious but didn't want to stare. We opted for a couple of lounge chairs where we disrobed and then jumped in the Jacuzzi. Starry sky, drinks in hand, the warm water, my sexy naked wife next to me. What a great feeling it was. Over the next 30 minutes at least one other couple got in the hot tub. The tub was huge so it definitely still felt empty.

By now it was empty on the rooftop and we decided to try out one of the beds. There's an ample supply of beach towels that you can lay out on the bed so we picked one close to the end near the towels. Being completely naked under the stars was a turn-on and soon we were off into our own world. Something nearby caught my eye and it turned out to be another couple taking the bed next to us. I could hear some words but I was totally distracted. I made a run to the Lobby Bar for coffee and water but it turns out water bottles are only available when housekeeping restocks the 4 bottles in your room fridge. It was then off to breakfast. In case you are wondering the coffee from the bar and at the restaurant was really good. The food itself was also very good. We had a nice time at breakfast, made our dinner reservations with the hostess at the breakfast buffet and then sun-screened up for the pool. Sunscreen went in places that never saw sunscreen before.

By the time we arrived at the pool, the covered pool beds were gone but they had a circular bed available that worked out just fine. They brought over an umbrella to provide some shade and all was great. Looking around there was a mix of naked, topless and covered up people so I figured what the hell and stripped down naked. It wasn't long before she was topless and then completely nude. The next few hours consisted of swimming in the pool, swimming in the ocean, drinking by the pool, and drinking at the pool bar. Some highlights/observations:
- The staff was awesome. We were setup next to the pool, nice towels were provided, our glasses were rarely empty, a young friendly lady stopped by to take DJ requests and make sure we were having a good time. We did get a bit of a sell for the erotic photo shoot session but it was fine.
- The pool bartenders were fantastic. He made us fizzy tequila shots that were a lot of fun and set my wife up with Purple Rain.
- Swimming naked in the ocean was amazing. The beach was well maintained and not at all rocky. As we were leaving the ocean we ran into Mr & Mrs St Louis a very friendly couple who were part of the Yahoo group.
- It is really weird to go to the bathroom naked. I don't think I could ever get used just walking up to a urinal naked.
- Mr Toronto stopped by and called me by my first name. At first a sense of panic came over me as I was trying to play back customers and coworkers of years gone by but quickly went away when I realized that he was from the Yahoo group. He's one of the friendliest guys ever and made us feel completely at ease. In fact in later conversations with my wife I came to find out he made one of the most favorable impression on her of all the guys that weekend.
- At the pool my wife was more comfortable in watching others.

We decided to take a break from the pool later in the afternoon and headed up to the Jacuzzi bar. It definitely was not crowded, maybe a dozen people total up top.We sat at the last 2 seats at the bar and enjoyed our drink. It is very difficult to explain but this place oozes a sexual aura in a very good way. We had early reservations for Sahlo so as people started dissipating from the pool area we headed to the room for another round of adult fun and then got dressed for dinner. While she showered I hit the Lobby Bar for a cup of coffee. I was sitting at the bar having my coffee and this guy started talking to me. Turned out it was Mr St Louis, I just didn't recognize him with clothes on. After some chatting it was back to the room to pick up my hot date. The Sahlo restaurant was nicely done inside. There was another couple at the front bar but we were the first to be seated. I have to say the menu had so many delicious sounding choices. The food was absolutely delicious and perfectly presented. We were expecting good food but this surpassed expectations. Definitely will will eat there again. People were arriving in a staggered manner through the course of our dinner. It was a wonderful romantic evening with my wife.

After dinner we decided to check out the disco knowing that it hadn't started up yet. We were curious just to see what it was like. We walked through the hanging chains in the lobby, up the spiral staircase and through the door. I have to admit it was smaller than what I had envisioned but it was well laid out with seating, a dance floor (with a stripper pole) and a bar. One of the bartenders was preparing stock for the evening, greeted us and offered to give us a tour. He showed us where the rest rooms were and then led us to the back corner to the sin room. We went inside and could see the round beds against the wall, porn playing on the tv and the hardware on the ceiling. The swing was disconnected and lying on the floor but I could my wife was very intrigued! That room was definitely on the to-do list.

We decided we would head to the Lobby Bar to check out the evening entertainment so we walked out and around behind where photo store is. We noticed the first bed was empty so we took it. It was nice listening to the music and it wasn't long before someone was by to take our drink order. I fully expected to come across at least 1 couple getting busy in the beach beds but not once did we see that. I am convinced, that if it was on your to-do list, you could make it happen.

It was now time to hit the disco. We back tracked back through the lobby, up the spiral stairs but this time the other side of the door was very different. The place was loud and packed with people watching some sort of "get the crowd going" entertainment. We were both thinking the same thing as we opted for the sin room rather than whatever was going on out on the dance floor. We entered the room and it was completely empty so we took the bed all the way at the back. I remember the floor being very soft as we laid out a few towels and disrobed. It was fun f**king in a totally different environment and after about 20 some minutes another couple came in and took the bed next to ours. They were definitely a nice looking couple so I asked my wife if she wanted to be positioned in a way to take advantage of the view. She still hadn't gotten comfortable yet with the voyeurism part so we continued just listening to the sounds of the other people (and contributing). It was definitely hot! I'll add that at one point there was a guy who came in and just sat alone watching the porn on the TV. It was a little odd but didn't detract from the experience. I think we did another walk on the beach and then headed to the room. What a fun crazy day!

Sunday morning we woke up and repeated the previous morning... great sex, coffee and then breakfast. I managed to reserve one of the canopy pool beds for use during the day. Checkout was 11am, and pickup was 1PM so we packed our bags except for the day's travel outfit and left the bags at the front desk and checked out. We hung out naked at the pool, swam in the ocean, drank at the pool bar until it was time to say good bye. Once again the pool bartender was really good. For the last drink at DRM we asked for him to surprise us. I can't remember what he served me (it wasn't memorable) but my wife was served a Pina Colada and I do have to say it was one of the best Pina Coladas I have ever been served poolside anywhere. We had sunscreen left over that exceeded the carry-on limit so we were given the tip to leave it with the entertainment staff. They very much appreciated it. As a side note I will add that the beverages themselves were the only area that didn't overly impress me. The beer selections and liquor choices were underwhelming but the wine in the restaurants was very good. I did see one guest giving a personal stash to the bartender and I will consider bringing along something next time.

We went in a little apprehensive and not exactly sure what to expect and left wanting to come back. Definitely a vacation not like any other! And I will say the post vacation high has lasted longer than any other vacation.
