The tantric week program went ok. It turned out really not to be our cup of tea, but several couples did really enjoy it. We do hope that Desire continues with similar type special activities- and brings back the sexologist, etc.
Weather has been great- about 10 minutes of rain one evening- at least when we were awake to see it- was all there was all week. As you implied- never trust those weather reports !
After labor day the resort did drop down to under 50% for a couple days, but then steadily built back to 80%. We've heard that they same type pattern is expected the next couple of weeks- low mid week and busy weekends.
Well, we are packed and off to say our goodbyes. For all of you arriving soon, we have done our best to keep get things ready for you- lol- and we know you are going to be impressed with EVERYTHING when you arrive. Enjoy !

mfay,

Can you verify pool closure from 1-4 Oct 2009? It was posted in the arriving section. This affects our 2-10 Oct 2009, stay. If so, will the hot tub area be open earlier in the day?

Thank you,

Chris

Pool closing

Chris, I received an email on 9/11 from Martin Good, the General Manager, saying the pool would be closed for resurfacing Oct. 1-4. The email said that the Jacuzzi lounge would be open all day and all night (as well as the beach, of course). It didn't say whether the bar and food service at the pool would remain open, but not sure how comfortable (physically and psychologically) it would be there with a crew working on the pool.

cokemann,

Thanks for the heads up on mfay's travel status.

dcnewbies703,

I guess everyone will have to be come friends in the jacuzzi a littler earlier each day. :D

As others have stated, hopefully the pool job does not run over and it doesn't take forever for the water to heat up.

As coke said, we did not hear about the date being set for the pool renovation before we left Desire so we couldn't confirm it. I'm sure it's true though since someone about got the e-mail from Martin, and we were told early last week that it was something that really needed to be done sooner than later.
On the positive side- the AC in the buffet was fixed Friday so those of you arriving at Desire next week don't need to worry about that.
We'll post a wrap up sooner or later- after I get over my post Desire doldrums........... We all have to return to reality, but it's really tough right now to remember WHY !

We hope you have a great trip and enjoy it just as much as we did.
One thing we forgot to mention and that we highly recommend: take some time to visit the little beach bar in the early afternoons. As we set here today thinking back over the highlights of the past week, the time we spent at the beach bar Friday afternoon stands out as one of those priceless Desire memories. Only about a dozen seats there. Quiet. But people tend to stop by for a drink and things just happen. Conversations you wouldn't have anywhere else. Captain Dan happened to bring out some jello shots-which of course led to some "discreet" body shots- amongs friends and with others who happened to stop by. One lucky lady- who we didn't know had only arrived 5 minutes before on her first Desire visit- stopped by fully clothed for her first desire drink and within minutes had her first-and second body shots administered by several folks whose names she didn't even know. Lol- again, priceless !

Thanks for the real time updates Mike and Barb, you lucky devils!!

So hopefully the pool will be done by May, sounds like it will, assuming they go through with it.

Did you mention anything about the resort to the south? Is that still going on or did it hault too?

Cant wait to see you both in May.

Pool will be done by May, 'cause on the Desire website they've announced the pool will be closed for renovation 10/5 - 10/9......

No, the pool won't be a problem for us in May. And it appreard that there is nothing at all happening on the property to the south beside desire now either. Thats dead for now too. When you see Secrets running specials on down the beach at 40% off you know that regular resorts are having a much harder time than Desire.
So Garrett and Carol- we will see you the week of May 8th for the another fantastic Ynots/Hot Tamales party !
Anyone else out there reading this, there are still some rooms available. Ynot join the fun ?

So the Desire site says they are just going to "resurface" the pool. This is a big difference between a remodel w/bar.

Here is cut/paste

Dear Valued Clients & Friends;
Thank you for visiting our web page. We'd like to take this opportunity to inform you that we’ll be resurfacing the pool from October 5th to 9th, 2009. For this reason, every pool activity scheduled will take place at our beautiful beach. For your convenience our Jacuzzi Lounge hours will be extended from 8:00 a.m. to dawn. Please call us to take advantage of the special promotion we have prepared for this period.

Yea, I was going to mention this in the trip report. Conspicuous Consumption? We'd met the newbie couple at breakfast, so they're probably blaming us for that stain on her shorts. 'Least we got her out of her shirt quickly enough, eh?

Dan - Friggin' Outstanding work with the Jello Shots. You should be named the Canadian ambassador to Cancun four such humanitarian work.

Jeff & Amy- we should have known you two were responsible ! Lol- good work ..............

Rocky- as we mentioned early in the trip report, the swim up bar was something that some of the Desire management was lobbying for in conjunction with the pool repairs. But it's not surprising that is isn't going to happen. The outcry over the pool being closed for 4 or 5 days is nothing compared to what would have happened had they tried a 3 or 4 week shutdown.
