First Timer Report, Plus New Suite Info - Dec 2016

Postby SandM » Tue Dec 27, 2016 12:25 pm

We just spent a week at DRM, departing on Christmas Day. The short story is, we had an amazing time and we will return. The longer story is provided below, with some tips that might help out those who are following shortly in our footsteps - especially first timers.

I wont bore you with details about our travel to Cancun, customs, etc.

Check-in: We arrived around noon on the 18th. We were excited but tired and road-weary. Checkin was smooth and the staff was delightful. The next step, however, was to shift us over to another desk for info about the layout of the resort, etc, but quickly began to turn into a sales presentation with no indication of an end in sight. I tried very nicely to stop him and told him we were very tired and wanted to go to our room. He was a really sweet guy - I wont use his name here because we really like him - and I know its his job. OK - after 5 more minutes and no end in site we were both frustrated I just said "No Mas" and had to be more firm than I wished I had to be. He tried twice more during the week to get us to agree to a presentation, but by then other guests had told us they had been kept for and HOUR AND FORTY FIVE MINUTES. No way. Bottom line: Unless you think you might really be interested in a membership, reject the "extra information" desk and insist that your butler escort you to your room right away.

Room: We got the room we requested (2002) but quickly regretted it due to construction noise. The room was beautiful and perfectly located to the beach and everything else, but the construction next door continued and began to start earlier and end later each day. We were woken up twice at 7:30 AM by digging and landscaping, etc. Then, on day 3, they decided to pretty much rebuild CC's bar, which immediately outside our front door. Skill saws, hammering, loud conversations between the workers - ALL DAY. This problem was magnified by rain, which caused us to want to be in our room relaxing and having sex with the doors open - but which was spoiled by no stoppage of the work. And when it did rain too hard to work, the workers REMAINED in CCs bar, talking and joking around. Not the best atmosphere for a doors-open, sea-breezy good time. That was the final straw for us, and we asked to be moved - which the resort was able to do for us the next day. They were very nice about it and gave us no trouble. In fact, the room they moved us to (2214) was larger and nicer. We remained there for the rst of our stay and loved it. Not one hint of the construction noise was perceptible. Bottom line: If you are arriving at DRM anytime before about mid-January, I think your safest bet is to make sure your ocean view room is NOT in the 2000 block. I never heard anyone staying in a Garden View room say they had an issue with construction noise.

Staff: All wonderful - even the sales presentation guy - we genuinely loved them all.

Food: Just as we expected from all the reviews we read before arriving, the food at Desire is plentiful and good. It is not fine cuisine, so if you are expecting 4-star chefs and artistic plating, go ahead and check your expectations. We found ourselves most enjoying breakfasts, then a late lunch/snack, and then a late-nite taco or pizza at the lobby bar. We never found ourselves hungry enough to eat 3 full meals.

Beach: It is beautiful on the southern end, where the pool and volleyball courts are. On the northern end, where CC's bar and the beach pavilion is, it is noticeably eroding. The pilings under both CC's bar and the beach pavilion are eroding away. I'm not even sure why they are trying to rebuild the bar. There are places where you can see exposed sandbags and cement blocks where they have tried to shore things up. I don't mean to make this sound like a disaster area - it is not. Just want to give an honest report of what we saw. Regarding seaweed, we saw plenty of it, but there was a team out there raking and bagging it up each morning. NOT a job I'd want. Those guys work HARD. Seaweed was not a problem in our eyes. Overall, the beach became less of a focus for us as the days passed because the pool is gorgeous and where all the fun is. One last thing: We tried to take a nighttime walk on the beach, naked, because that sounded like a fun experience in our heads, but a Desire security guard chased us down and asked (begged) us to not do it because of "robbers." We very much appreciated him for rushing to make sure we remained safe, but its kind of a sad thing. NOTE: We were walking north, away from Desire's beach - NOT on Desire's beach. That would have been fine.

New Suites: As of Christmas Day, when we left, only one of the new suites was "done." Meaning they rushed a bunch of furniture into it and used it as a model for tours. The rest of the suites remained empty shells with lots of hurried work taking place. They clearly looked like they were in a bit of a panic mode to me. Work began to start earlier and go on later each day, it seemed. I tell you this so that, in case you are scheduled to be in one of the new suites anytime soon, you should REALLY quiz them hard about it and be prepared for a potential issue. I will say the infiniti pool and jaccuzzis look amazing.

Later, I'll come back and post about the daily routine we settled into that we found SO fun and enjoyable.

Cheers,

Also - wanted to add a thought on the sales pitch. We were also moved to the 2nd desk upon our arrival. I looked right at the fellow (who was lovely) and said - we really want to get to our rooms. We are happy to hear what we need to know about resort rules, but will not stay for a sales talk. We categorically know that we are not interested in buying anything at this time. I said it with a laugh and a generous smile - but I was very firm. He went over the map and the schedule and let us on our way.

No one wants to have to be direct like this - but we decided it was important to practice being very clear about what we want. This is good for avoiding sales pitches and also for negotiating other types of engagements at Desire. But it is not necessarily easy on either count. So I would encourage every one to be ready and to make it clear, up front, that you know that the sales pitch is coming and that you do not want to sit through it. The staff is great. They are just doing their job - and if you make it clear that you will not play, they will smile and let it go.

Ha! Hi, N and S. We are glad we got relocated next door to you two, as well. I have something hilarious you should see. We were shooting a little, um, video in our room when, suddenly, hysterical shrieking laughter explodes from next door. LOL Seriously, we enjoyed meeting you both, and seeing you both have such a good time. We wish we'd "figured it all out" lifestyle-wise when we were much younger. Enjoy.

OK, here's a continuation of the report started above:

Before I get into our daily routine, I wanted to add a bit about the people (other guests) we met and how it went for us as First Timers at the resort. The people we met are the best part. Day One when you arrive is a blast because you're the "NEW PEOPLE." Everyone is saying hello and you feel like the Belle of the Ball (because that is exactly what you are). Enjoy that :) Within a day or so, you are no longer "new." In all likelihood, you've already said goodbye to some awesome people you've just met (and wish you'd had more time with). But your melancholy is quickly distracted by the arrival of - you guessed it - NEW PEOPLE. You've also developed some friendships with guests who will be with you throughout your stay. By the end of your stay, you've turned into a valuable guide for newbies who've just arrived, still nervous about what to expect. We discovered that this is a natural progression that is really pretty fun (aside from the bummer that is saying goodbye).

We met fun people and made friends with people from all over the US and Mexico (Roberto, if you read this, know that my wife, "M" will not soon forget you. In the Yahoo Group, we left a message on your photo in hope that you and your lovely wife see it).

Our experience as first timers, and relatively new to the lifestyle: "M" and myself have dabbled in the lifestyle for a few years, but we have not yet gone into the "full swing" category. Going in, we felt pretty comfortable that everything was going to be just fine because we'd already read reports from others about how everyone at Desire behaves. These reports proved to be completely accurate. You will find couples that range from full swing to utterly un-involved in the lifestyle. You will find that very friendly, outgoing and engaging people will approach you and you will have a great time visiting. If you are so inclined, you will find yourself playing with them to the extent you are comfortable. If you are not so inclined, it won't go beyond having a nice conversation. A full swing couple knows when there is that level of interest. If there is not, they don't push it. Honestly, if you are not comfortable with the lifestyle, just simply avoid the hot tub area (especially after midnight). We loved it. We laughed, talked, played, played with each other, partied and had a blast without once feeling pressured by anyone about anything. To be completely honest, "M" did have one guy who "came in hot" on here - planting a kiss on her right off the bat without any grace or introduction - but he cooled his jets quickly upon resistance from her. I attribute this incident mostly to alcohol - and rate it no worse that what you might expect in a wild vanilla nightclub. This particular guy steered clear of her for the rest of our stay without any awkwardness, as well.

About getting naked: As I said in the beginning, I wanted to post something helpful to First Timers, particularly those who are newbies and/or nervous, While we have dabbled for a few years in the lifestyle, until arriving at Desire neither of us had been naked in front of strangers for more than a single evening at a swinger club - and then it was only in a darkened room. "M" is the type who completely unencumbered by feelings of insecurity, so she never worried about this. Me, on the other hand, I worried a bit. Am I too damned old? Is my ass too flat? Is my dick too small? All those irrational insecurities.

I decided to handle this the only way I knew how. The moment we arrived, before our butler had even gotten out of sight, I stripped completely naked, grabbed a beer from our fridge, and walked outside. I won't lie: I was scared a bit shitless. "M" laughed her ass off, stripped and joined me. Then we talked with staff who are experts at being completely blind to your nakedness. Then we met and talked with our first other naked guests, and then I was absolutely at ease. Within a couple of hours I was perfectly at ease roaming from end to end of the resort in my birthday suit and it was the most liberating experience. Honestly, I'd advise anyone to just GO FOR IT. If you don't like it, you can always put your bottoms back on and NO ONE WILL CARE. But at least you wont go home wondering. As a percentage, I'd say 80% get completely naked. Some small percentage of women go topless only, and a smaller percentage of men keep their trunks on. As other reviews have noted. there is a WIDE range of ages, body types, levels of "attractiveness" or whatever, but there is ZERO feeling of judgement or exclusion. Its pretty remarkable.

Routine that worked for us: I'm an early riser, so each morning I found myself getting coffee at the Lobby Bar from Gabrielle or Carlos - both completely lovely people. I would leave our room at about 7:30, barefoot, in my robe (by Day 3 I no longer even bothered to tie it closed) where I would meet up for coffee with other early risers (Hi, Dana & Paul, KP, Mauricio and that other couple whose name I forgot). We would chat a bit about what was remembered (or not) from the previous evening and then I would wander over to the pool where I would reserve our seating for that day. I would then sit there and catch up on some news from my phone while finishing my coffee, maybe get a Screwdriver or a Mimosa, then swing back by the Lobby Bar for another coffee for myself and a Cappuccino to take to "M," who was still luxuriating in our room.

Then it was off to the pool for a bit before a late breakfast. Then to the room for a bit for some playtime. Then back to the pool where we spent our afternoons hanging out together on one of the round bed/chairs (our favorite) and in the pool with a wide variety of new friends and making new acquaintances. I have no idea how many Gray Goose & Sodas I drank each day. 20? More? Don't know. Bottom line is we had fun. Then a break for more playtime in the room, then back to the pool, then to the hot tub each day around 4:30 where many fun things happen.

Then a light dinnertime snack, followed by more playtime in our room, followed by the theme party, followed by the disco (not our favorite), followed by another session at the hot tub beginning around midnight or so. We did this most nights, and stayed until the wee hours twice.

Sorry this was so long and rambley -

Cheers,

S and M

LOL!
I bet your video is hilarious. Your faces when you came to our door were amazing. I do not know what you were expecting, but I am pretty sure it was not catching me in the middle of doing my best to work a wet-willy into N's ear! He shall, henceforth, know better than to attempt to steal my side of the bed.
