Wrap up- Sept 4-12 09 with WWW

September 4th to the 12th was our 16th trip to Desire. People may wonder why we still file trip reports- what we can possibly have to say about the place after so many visits ? But for us each trip is different and special in it’s own way. This trip was our 10th with Dennyp’s WWW group and our 6th September in a row at Desire, but also our first time actually being there over labor day weekend. Turns out there are a great group of people who traditionally go to Desire over labor day. We had a great time with all the Labor day group and WWW folks-and we plan to be back next year (September 4th to the 11th) over labor day again !
It just so happens that my birthday is September 4th. I had no idea, but my wonderful wife Barbara had contacted Mia at the resort several weeks before our trip and made some special birthday arrangements for me- and a good friend in the group who was celebrating her birthday the same day. When we arrived- while I was checking in- Barbara took off and was running around the resort taking care of “detailsâ€

Can you please expand (yet again, I'm sure) about the reserving of the beach beds, pool loungers, etc.

Is there a fee involved? Is it "yours" for the entire week or on a daily basis? What are the "rules" about it. Is it necessary? Are there enough beds and loungers to go around? Do we have to get up early to get a bed or lounger?

Maybe I'm the only one confused about the whole thing but I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around the reservation system.

Thanks again! And no matter how many times one visits the same resort, there are so many different experiences to write home about.

that the beach walkers from other resorts were only about 10 ft from the naked guests on the beach beds. Not a problem for me, but a little disconcerting for some

We were staying at Sensatori next door the same time you were at Desire - It will be Desire for us next time (although Desire looked fairly full whilst Sensatori was about 40% occupancy despite heavy discounting by the UK tour opperators)

BTW the reps from Thomsons (UK Tour Operators) suggest a "walk down the beach" to guests like it was a trip to the zoo to look at the nudist freaks

How different to the rep (same company) in Fuertaventura who suggested that if people hadn't tried it before, they should give it a go, and no one would bat an eye! (all beaches in Fuertaventura are mixed nude & textile, and there's "Desire type activity" on much of it to

Here is a post copied from the Desire management section of this forum that explains the beach bed system pretty well (with a few comments from me thrown in):

We have implemented a system where 10 beds are reserved daily for rental. This means that guests who prefer to pay ($20 US per day or $100 US for the week) can have a bed reserved the day(s) they wish. They can come down at noon or 1pm and the bed is theirs. Out of the 40 beds we have, 10 are only used for this system. Those who paid for their bed in our 10 bed system, can leave as long as they want without losing it as they have purchased it.
The others(30 beds) are the same system as before, first come first serve basis, as guests wake up and head down to the beach they go with the beach concerige who will let them know which beds are available and he will assign them a bed(there is no charge for these 30 beds reserved daily on a first come first served basis). Guests can use the bed all day, half day, 1 hour if they want, however if they leave the bed with their belongings on it for more than 2 hours, the bed will be cleared and freed for someone else to use avoiding that guests reserve beds with personal belongings. The 2 hour grace period allows enough time to go for breakfast or lunch and come back without losing the bed they were assigned. "

As for the pool loungers, there is no reservation for a fee deal for any of them that I know of (except that the folks in the passion suites can have them reserved in advance.) There is a pool concierge – usually arriving around 8 AM . Whenever you get up and go to the pool, you see him and ask for chairs- choosing whichever ones you want that aren’t already taken. He writes your room number on his “seating chartâ€

P&P- 15 years ago, had it been me staying at Sensatori,
I would probably have been right there with you. Jumping at the chance to stroll by and see the naked people. And, like you, I would have quickly decided that Desire was the place for me next time !
Actually we don't spend a lot of time on the beach- more at the pool- and I suppose if we did the walkers may bother us more (or perhaps we would just let our exhibitionist tendencies run wild). But there is nothing that can be done about it since the beaches are public. Desire security does keep people moving along.

Thanks M&B - we've been nudists for years, not really "lifestyle" but not offended by it either. We'd have gone to Desire this time, but it isn't that easy to get there from the UK (only one specialist operator I know of).

Scheduled flights from the UK cost almost as much as 2 weeks AI in Sensatori!

In fact it's cheaper for us to fly into the US and then buy a flight down to Mexico which is what we'll proably do (unless that's going to cause problems with US Imigration! )

P&P - here are a couple of tips for those comming to Desire from the UK
- check out Peng Travel - they specialize in Desire and c/o travel
- check out MartinAir (the charter service of KLM) they fly 4x a week all year long, direct from Schipol airport in Amsterdam to Cancun

Also look at Canarian Dreams, who do Desire as well as Peng.
You can fly Delta from London to Atlanta and then Atlanta to Cancun. They used to fly from Edinburgh all year but now only mid summer.
But we find charters with Thomson, Thomas Cook, First Choice etc. as good as any so far as flights go, when you think of the hassle changing planes, doing entry and exit into/from USA. etc. etc.. You can fly with one of them every day to Cancun from London, Manchester or Birmingham.

We flew Gatwick to Cancun with Thomson(booked through local travel agent) and the resort we booked through Peng.

Next time though I think we shall book directly with desire and we can get flights from Glasgow with thomson (only on a Friday), if we go in May (babysitter dependant) I can get 2 return flights for around £900. August flights are coming in around £1400.
