Seating protocol for pool: not clear for us

Still wondering:

"Reserving" a chaise at the pool in the morning: is it acceptable or un? Have read posts re staff "reserving" a place if asked. But what exactly is house policy? It would seem first come first served -- but you have to be there and stay there? Or can you drop a towel, go to breakfast...and know the spot is still yours an hour later with no hard feelings? We are newbies in March so advance apologies if this seems elementary and obvious. Thanks.

P.S. Our question pertains to Pearl.

Hi

We've been to both DRM and DP a few times each... You can definitely hold a chair in the morning, put a few belongings (shirt, book, Yeti mug, etc) down and go to breakfast. It's done by many guests.

Thanks very much. As typically early risers, that should work for us.

In addition to the above, best bet is to seek out the pool attendant when you first arrive and let him know where you'd like to sit for the length of your stay. A tip here goes a long way as he'll make sure you get that spot without having to wake up super early and head down to the pool. We do it each trip, nice to sleep in or get breakfast delivered to the room, etc...

Thanks for that. But how would the staff mark the spot? Offer them a Yeti or keys or similar? And is, say, $5 a typical tip for that -- or pay by the week?

They keep a seating chart with room numbers and/or last name. Tipping amount is up to you, they appreciate any tips as they work hard for all guests. They also can bring or arrange umbrellas as you'd like, etc...

They put a "Reserved" label on the lounges once someone reserves it. If there is no label, then it's free game (unless there are towels, etc)...
