Wife & I going to Cancun in Oct. She wasn't comfortable about the clothing optional environment. I booked Moon Palace instead. I explained she didn't have to do anything she didn't want to do.

I think if we made a day trip to Desire, she could experience the resort without being committed to staying there. If she likes it, we can book our next trip there.

Does the resort allow outside couples to spend a day for a fee?

Unfortunately, they do not allow day visits. It is all about privacy and "spectators" from outside the resort are not permitted. If you and your wife ever do book at least the minimum of a two night stay, you will have wished you had booked seven night!
