If you want post pictures to accompany your posts on the forum, but you aren't sure how to do it ... here is a simple tutorial on how to put your own pictures into this forum. actually, this tutorial will work for most message boards.

To get started you'll need a few things:

1. your images in .jpg or .gif format on you local hard drive
2. an account to a free image hosting site.

It will take you just a minutes to upload and link to your pictures.

You can use any one of the numerous web based image hosting sites including:
www.pbase.com
www.flickr.com
www.smugmug.com
www.imageshack.us
www.photobucket.com
... they're all free. however the method of obtaining the location of the file to link to may vary.

For the purpose of the tutorial, I'm going to use www.flickr.com. I've chosen flickr simply because I already had an account there and it's one of the simpler ones to use.

Let's start with the obvious, log on to your chosen image hosting site (I will assume you've already created a membership) and upload your photo ... for example we will upload a picture of a cat ... his name is Loki! Smile
Image

Find the location of the image on the hard drive of your computer. The likely place most people have them is in 'My Documents' or 'My Pictures'. Different hosts sites will allow you to upload more than one photo at a time.

Once the picture has been uploaded, you can add a title and description.
Image

After you save your images, they should appear in your gallery. Easy!!

The next step is a part of good net etiquette. perhaps your picture is REALLY Large (ie more than 800x600) ... well, it may mess up the message board page and also will take a long time to load.

That's one of the reasons I like flickr.com, it automatically offers photos of different sizes. Let's go pick a photo to display.

Click on your photo and you can see an option called 'all sizes'.

Image

From there, choose the best size. I recommend 'medium' which is about 500 pixels wide. this is generally a good size for message boards. smaller is ok too, but usually don't go any bigger!

Image

At the bottom of that page (the image size you've chosen) you can see some options. One is the link to the image including a flickr.com advertisement. The second one is the plain link to the image.

NOTE: the link to the image MUST contain .jpg or .gif ... these two represent the most common image formats.

Copy that link -> right click -> copy!

Image

Now you need to open your Desire Forum discussion thread. Paste your link -> right click -> paste!

then highlight that link and click the 'Img' button ...

Image

This is finally what you should see
Image

Now you're done!! All you need to do is add your message text and repeat the steps to add other images. Those images should now display normally within the thread

Just FYI, Flickr has done away with the "Post the pic's URL" ability. Now you can either use BB Code, which will make the pic a clickable link that goes directly to that pic's Flickr page & will have text under it that says it's posted on Flickr with your username, or you can do it the hard way like I usually do. The hard way consists of using the HTML code, then removing everything except the "http:\\farm..." link.

So if the HTML code from Flickr is this:
Code: Select all
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/99248541@N00/3436765750/" title="Upon Reflection by Sushi_Girl1995, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3605/3436765750_09188e3989_b.jpg" width="1024" height="808" alt="Upon Reflection"></a>

You would delete everything except this:

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3605/3436 ... 3989_b.jpg

And of course still use the img tags fore & aft.

Sorry for the link, it's automatic when starting with http: & I didn't want to throw spaces in there to confuse the issue.

As you can see from the above post HTML code is NOT supported(picture doesn't show up) on the forums software that we are using - you have to use BB code

To correctly display pictures simply copy the link from Flikr
Code: Select all
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3605/3436765750_09188e3989_b.jpg

Then paste it into your post - select all of the link with your mouse then click the "Img" button at the top of your post editing box and you should see this.
Code: Select all
[img]http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3605/3436765750_09188e3989_b.jpg[/img]

Which when you submit your post will show the actual image

Yes, I wasn't trying to post the actual pic, just show the text that you would need out of the html code. The img codes an be typed in, as well as using the img button.
