Newbs with questions about rooms

Postby SilverCoastCouple » Thu Feb 20, 2025 6:27 pm

Hello...

We will be heading to Pearl in Sept 2025 for our anniversary. We've done the nude beach thing a couple of times but never have stayed at a PDS resort so we're really excited. We have a couple of questions about rooms.

- We would like a balcony room but haven't decided yet on type of room - probably just a regular ocean view room or maybe a junior suite. We've looked at a resort map and we thought building 7 would be a good choice for us but we noticed it's next to the smoking area. For those of you who have stayed in bldg 7, has the smoke been an issue for you - especially while sitting on your balcony?

- Is there a map or document that lists room numbers and and the type of room for each room number? This sure would be useful when trying to choose.

Thanks y'all!

Here's some thoughts...

First off, you can't reserve a specific room. You can request and basically they ignore you. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try. At least you'll put the bug in their ear. You can also get a random room for the first night, then ask to move to a "better" room.

Second...second floor rooms have balconies, first floors are walkout with a patio. We are partial to 2nd floor rooms...we like the view.

Third...can't tell you if you will smell smoke in bldg 7. I can tell you the smoke smell normally blows from the beach in toward the resort. You will notice it more in the afternoon jacuzzi time. This will make more sense once your there, but the smoking area is sort of a bottle neck. As a result, it creates a mini jet stream that blows directly into the jacuzzi.

We prefer a master suite. We started with a Jr suite, but when we became members we went with a master. Only masters have 2 full bathrooms. We find 2 showers invaluable...and I can't overstate that...for us. It's not about 2 toilets, although that is nice. The showers are a life saver...and a time saver...for us. If that's a non starter for you, I'd just go with an ocean view...save the $$$.

Our personal favorite for a room is 80. It's a 2nd fl Master with a spectacular view of the pier. It's at the far end of the resort (Quiet side), but the resort is so small that the walk is nothing to worry about.

If Mrs SilverCoast doesn't do well in heels, then being more centrally located might be a good idea. My wife usually walks barefoot to dinner and puts on her heels before walking in

The first couple of times we went to Desire, first to RM and then to Pearl, we were very choosy as to what room we got. Since then we have become far less picky and realize that by the time we get back to our room we are so tiredthat is basically a face plant on the bed for us. Our only real requirement is that there is a table and chairs on the balcony or patio as we like to eat our breakfasts in the nude from room service.
Some are reigniting the flame. Ours never burned out. Just dumping gas on it!

We tend to agree with you. Our primary requirements are (1) a balcony if possible, and (2) a sitting area inside to enjoy a private happy hour if we so choose.

There is no doubt that you can have a great vacation at Desire in the lowest cost room, and enjoy everything the resort has to offer. But equally, if your budget has a bit more stretch, you can remove any of the minor irritations that can happen. Nicer, spacious room always make things seem better, two bathrooms are unnecessary, because we can all easily live with one, but it can remove one of those minor irritations.
The butler that comes with more expensive room grades is another. Some people don’t use them, but used properly they can remove all the hassle over getting suitable restaurant reservations, or even changing your mind at the last minute, getting the right drinks in your room, getting the right cabana bed, moving cabana bed to the beach in the afternoon ….all minor irritations if they happen, but nice to have them disappear.
Similarly tipping - even tipping OTT over the first day or two - is not necessary to get good service to get good service at Desire …..but I have found that it doesn’t hurt either.

My only preference is I'd rather not be on the ground floor. We are members with a Master Suite. I'd rather have a balcony with the ability to always have the curtains open and the door open as well if it's not too windy or hot. Don't want people walking by to always be looking in.
