Spring Break

Postby Orange88 » Fri May 19, 2017 7:37 pm

Thinking about when to plan our first trip to Pearl. We are an active fit couple, not Lifestyle. Sounds like on the younger end of the spectrum (her-31.. me-36).

Thinking about Mar to Apr range and wondering if there is much spill over from Cancun spring break crowd. I think we'd be interested in periods with a slightly larger number of couples in our stage of life to socialize with, but since we aren't LS, that isn't critical. Age is just a number, but it's a bit easier, for me especially, to be sociable with people in my same life phase; young kid or two and building a new business or working up the professional ladder. But is the Spring Break period filled with couples in their early 20s breaking away from school?

There are other threads with this question but I think the general consensus is there is not a lot of impact from Spring Break. The price of a stay at Desire doesn't mesh with the budget of a typical Spring Breaker and of the 20 something Spring Breakers that *do* have the budget for this place, you would only get a small percentage of them that are couples looking to go to a "Swingers Resort". Between those two filters, there's not much of an up tick.

Obviously, there can be exceptions but I don't think visits by the age range you are looking for are influenced by Spring Break that much. I think the bell curve skews younger during the Young Swingers Weeks so that may be an option - and you don't have to be swingers to go.

As you stated, age is just a number and I'm sure you would enjoy meeting and chatting with people regardless of age but I certainly get the desire to "be with your own kind" so to speak.

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for the info. I kinda figured with it being a bit pricey and couples only, that would eliminate the potentially annoying spring breakers who don't seem to know that fun can be had with good etiquette.

I totally agree about not restricting or prejudging based on age. The wife is more of a social butterfly than me, and also much less inhibited with nudity. She makes friends everywhere. Is a bit tougher for me to have "real" conversations, especially with people much older or younger. I'm hoping that the desire atmosphere helps me out with that.

Prepare to be pleasantly surprised. Your wife will be far more in her element that you can imagine. The nudity thing becomes 'normal' very quickly. I think you'll find it the most pleasurable socializing experience you've ever had (you will certainly leave with a new perspective on interactions and the contrast will be stark when you return to the real world). You will be able to have more real conversations than you can imagine. It may just ruin the normal world for you lol.

The people are our #1 reason for going to Desire, it's not any judgment or anything but we find the people at Desire so much more interesting than when we are out in vanilla land - and it has nothing to with swinging, they are generally just more open, honest and you can have more real conversations about whatever.

You might want to do some reading/research on Pearl vs RM and figure out which experience is right for you. They are different. Neither is going to be spring break wild, but the perception at least is that RM is wilder/younger and Pearl is older/more tame, but practically speaking not by a lot. In your 30s you'll likely be in the minority at either. You may or may not even see anyone in their 20s. Of course there are exceptions, plenty of wildness happens at both - it is very crowd dependent at either place. Depending on what you are looking for, unless you go with a group the best you can do is try to find which matches what you are looking for the most then play the odds - or do a split trip and try both.

Some things to consider (RM based on our experience, Pearl info based on talking with many couples who have been there):

Pearl has 88 rooms, is a bigger property with much bigger pool and hot tub (big enough to have the concept of a 'quiet side'). Things are in general more spread out.

RM has 114 rooms, is a smaller property with smaller pool and hot tub, no concept of a 'quiet side'. Less space, more people, you get the idea...

I think the perception also leads to a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts. On a first trip, if people want tamer they are more likely to pick Pearl, if they want wilder they are more likely to pick RM, so it kinda plays out that way to some extent.

Based on our experience and talking to many others, for us we would only do Pearl with a group, otherwise RM is a better fit for what we are looking for.

FYI - the two properties Sq footage/(Sq meters) wise, are virtually identical - they are just laid out differently

Desire RM has about twice the beach front area compared to Pearl and is shaped more like a rectangle laid on its side(beach to road).

Desire Pearl is shaped more like a rectangle laid on its end(beach to road).

Interesting! I should have prefaced that statement with 'others who just came from there told us...'. That was their perception of it at least. I could see how the shape could give that effect though.

As has been stated, you will quickly get used to the nudity. It seems hard to believe but it becomes "normal" faster than you can imagine.

As for having real conversations with people out of your age range - that too is waay easier here than anywhere else (on the planet?). It bleeds over into even less politically correct "issues" as well.

On one of our visits, there was a very large woman at the hot tub. Now, this is treading into dangerous waters here but please bear with me to the upcoming moral...

So, I'm thinking "more power to her" but I'm not going to go out of my way to meet them and all that. Well, my wife is more of a butterfly and, as you do while mingling in the hot tub, we started chatting with her/them. Before you know it, we are having a great time. Her body type, and my biases, disappeared into the Desire-zone. Same thing happened with a much older couple. The guy could barely walk but was an absolute riot to talk with.

It's f**king weird, and you won't understand it until you get there and see for yourself but it really does happen.
