Photos with no people

Postby tempanon2 » Sat Sep 14, 2024 3:34 pm

A possibly off the wall photography question…

For background, my wife and I have been to Pearl a couple years ago, but we had a question about pictures. There is the no cameras, no pictures rule there for obvious reasons. However, my wife is an artist and likes taking close up nature and artifact shots. (Think things like closeups of plants, shots of a pillar from the old pier, etc). I.e. things that not only wouldn't have people in them but would be actively avoiding any people for the sake of the shot.

When we were there before, she respected the rule and didn’t take pictures. In retrospect, she was a little disappointed since there were things she would have liked to photograph given the landscaping and plant life on the grounds.

We’re curious how much this is a matter of the letter of the law vs the spirit. Obviously, anything around the pool would be off limits, but in your experience, would management or other guests be concerned if, say, someone has a camera out between buildings away from people and is taking artsy close up shots of leaves? (or similar)

Not a big deal if so, but curious what people think.

If you are careful to keep people out if your shots it's never been an issue for me ;)

This shot is from Desire RM

There’s lots of leaves and old posts outside the resort to photograph. Why not respect the rules? Just wondering if pictures are that important to her. I have certainly known some guests that would have a real problem seeing her taking pictures. Discretion would be the key.

Honestly, with everyone on their phones all over the place now, someone obviously taking pictures that no person could possibly be in would be the absolute last thing to be concerned with.

@PowderFingers, you’re probably right! Hopefully the resort gets rid of the no pictures rule soon! We don’t spend time on our phones in the resort. We’re too busy relaxing and enjoying all the fun playmates. What do we care if they want to spend their time taking pictures?!?

Get rid of the no pictures rule?? Absolutely not. We go to desire because we can be naked and indulge in all our fantasies without pictures being taken and passed around or kept on other peoples phones. Its bad enough people cant go an hour without checking their fb or insta when they're on vacation but if they're sad enough to have to do that they its up to them but don't include us in pictures.

There are people there who would lose their jobs if someone at work found out they where at a Swinger...sorry Clothing optional resort! What right has anyone got to put peoples careers at risk for their own pleasure? Allow people to take pictures and you lose a big chunk of guests. I suggest they ban phones totally from pool/hot tub and disco. If you need to work then go to your room and check emails etc. Phones are one of the reasons more and more guests are keeping clothes on and the resort is perpetuating that by not clamping down on photograhy. Just like they are turning a blind eye to drugs and smoking/ vapes in the pools and hot tubs. Things are changing and not for the better and as members that makes us sad.

@Johnwal, I sincerely apologize! I was being 100% sarcastic. Clearly I did not convey that well. I have a difficult time disagreeing without being disagreeable. In an effort to not be rude in our online community, I tried to joke my anger away.

BB and I are adamantly opposed to pictures being taken in the resort. We also don’t think cell phones should be out of rooms in the resort. BB and I do not take our phones out of the room. The idea that Desire is where one would go to practice their photography art is asinine. We think this is a terribly selfish ask by the OP, hence my first post…follow the rules. She can literally go anywhere else in Cancun to take her pictures.

BB and I agree with you 100%. No cameras, no photos. If one must work, go work in your room! We extend the utmost discretion to other resort goers and we expect the same discretion. We happen to be guests that have situations at home that require discretion and care to maintain. So no, we don’t want anyone taking pictures of guests, leaves, flowers, or old posts. Sorry for the confusion and sorry if anyone is offended by us preferring the rules be followed and enforced.

Did Desire go away from handing out those stickers to put over your phone’s camera lens, which I really appreciated?

They still hand out the stickers. But people are so addicted to their phones.

I apologise, its a subject that seems to be getting out of control at Desire and the resorts are allowing it to happen. We all go there to escape 'normality' and put ourselves in positions that are sometimes unacceptable to the 'outside world' and the consequences to family and career can be quite life changing if people in the 'Vanilla World' find out. Some of the changes are detrimental to the resorts and fellow guests, and no more so than the seemingly freedom to have phones on you 24hrs a day and have no controls in place. With more people visiting from resorts such as Temptation that aren't into even nudism never mind 'the Lifestyle' the phone culture is booming and a lot of these people don't seem to recognise the offence taking general pictures of people at the resort.

However, it was me that missed your sarcasm so I apologise for that, I totally understand where you are coming from and are with you 100%. Keep your phones in your room! I'm similar to you, if i have strong views I have to communicate them :) and sometimes they don't come over well! Of course this is just my view, others may have a different view and they're welcome to them ;) My wife often does

I will be blunt! Don't have your phone out ever! With facial recognition etc, we can not afford to be identified. We have seen a situation, two times, where someone was reported, security went through their photos and the guest was asked to leave. Walk to Puerto Morelos and take your photos.

For us (and I'm sure many others), our time at Desire is the ONE place where we can get away from everything....work, phones....life.
Of course we stay connected in the morning before the day starts and perhaps prior to dinner, but otherwise, we leave our phones on mute, we absolutely leave them in the room and every single time we get back we comment how nice it was not to be attached to our phones all the time, and how we should do more of that in our every day lives (but don't).

It slays me...you've got beautiful, naked people (or nearly naked) all around you, and you've got peoples heads buried in their phones. Look around...enjoy the scenery- the world will still be there.

We take few photos but I have my phone out frequently there. Why? I have a glucose monitor and it sends the info to my phone and the only way for me to know if I’m too high or low. So not all phones are out for pictures.

With that said, I’m all for privacy. Just a thought to consider

Good point. Others need their phones with them for family reasons like kids at home, just to give an example. So good for those who can totally disconnect, good for those who need their phones with them but respect the rules. And that is the key: respect. Desire is paradise for most of us and I'm sure many of us love to take pictures of our naked partners or when they wear those sexy outfits that can't be worn anywhere else. If those pictures do not include others, I would guess they are no problem.

I think the big majority of us who go to Desire respect the rules so it is not fair to penalize that big majority just because a couple of idiots don't understand that no means no.
