Out of Resort Tours

Hi All,

Maybe not the most talked about topic, or why people go to Desire, but does Pearl have a "tour desk" or concierge service that will book outside tours?

We have never been to Mexico, or Central America for that fact, and coming all the way from Australia we would like to at least spend one day doing tourist stuff and I am getting tired of doing the trip advisor shuffle!

Any advice on things to do, Mayan Ruins, other cultural tourist stuff would also be great.

Cheers!

At least one couple we talked to last time had a trip in to Cancun arranged by the Pearl staff, and they were very happy. Chichen Itza is two or three hours away and truly amazing, if you want a break from all the sexy.

Chichen Itza (if you are into ruins) is great but as mentioned previously its about a 3hr boring drive each way, so count on being away from the resort for 7+ hours minimum
Private Tour Chichen Itza

Below are some options for other private tours with shorter drive times provided by USA Transfers/Entertainment Plus

Private Tour Tulum Express
This one is about 3 to 4hrs total

Private Tour Tulum & Coba
This one is about 4 to 5hrs total

Private Tour Tulum & Xel-ha
This one is about 4 to 6hrs total - if you want the best combo of Mayan Ruins and a really fun water adventure - highly recommended ;)

Cancun (the hotel zone - tourist area) is pretty much like any other big city, there are some great clubs there as well as Coco Bongo but they don't even get started until 10 pm.

Puerto Morelos - a small fishing village with some interesting local shops and decent restaurants is less than a half hour walk along the beach south of Pearl - definitely more cultural than you will find in Cancun - lol

Just to add to the great info you already got, you could also visit Playa del Carmen which is only ~ 45 min. drive from Puerto Morelos and there are plenty of things to do there too. Playa is very touristic and colorful and has that Euro chic charm that you probably won't find anywhere else in that area IMO. There are beautiful beaches there too and adventure parks. I would recommend the Xcaret park, it's really unique and interesting with its underground rivers, lagoons, caves, etc.
Also if you are interested in learning more about the Mexican culture and history definitely don't miss the XCARET’S NIGHT SHOW.

If you have enough time so you don't mind missing a day at the resort, try a jungle and cenote tour. We took that tour once and it was fun. They pick you up at the resort and bus you to the jungle where you ride 4-wheelers deep into the jungle to a cenote. There you swim for 3-4 hours then go to a jungle bar for lunch. Then they take you back to the resort. We booked it at a little stand in the main square in the town of Puerto Morales.
