Hola! We were down at Pearl not too long after all the hurricanes had come through. Needless to say, the beach had eroded A LOT. Just curious from any recent travelers what the state of the beach is these days? Has it recovered at all?

6/21/21: - Desire Pearl
The pier is now removed. The beach has significant erosion at the pier side and gets less towards the south. The sargassum during our week we stayed made the beach un-usable and swimming in the ocean was not an option due to the conditions of the water. The odor from the seaweed accumulation was very prevalent. We were told by some other couples who stayed at other times of the year in 2021 that it was not that bad when they were there. All of the resorts to the north had the same problem. At the end of our week we were able to walk down to Puerto Morelos resorts to swim in the ocean however. Not ideal, but we needed to be able to get in some ocean time.

Can anyone tell me the current condition of the beach at Pearl? Are you able to swim or has seaweed taken over?

Earlier this month the beach was covered in seaweed - was so thick that birds were walking on and across the water.

Will check back on Thursday when we return.

It’s in fairly rough shape in my opinion. The barrier blocks out a ton but a lot still makes it’s way to the beach. It is… fragrant at first but I got used to it quickly and have an annoyingly strong sense of smell.

Will they repair the pier?

I've seen pictures posted on social media of workers rebuilding the pier just recently, so yes.

We are here now. They are working there daily. Sounds like drilling for pier posts.

Pier is moving along. There are 6-8 guys working on it daily. Installing the posts. The beach is a mess.

What rocks6 said - very noisy work every day and the beach is a mess between the seaweed and the erosion. No one went in the water while we were there and the odor was definitely noticeable. They did do the beach volleyball game every day.
