Pearl to Isla Muejeres

Postby BosCouple36 » Fri Jun 25, 2021 2:50 pm

Hello. First timer headed to Pearl last week of July. Looks like the beach at the resort may be in bad condition for our visit so thinking of taking a day trip to Isla Muejeres during our stay so that my wife can enjoy a beautiful beach day - she loves the beach. How easy is this to do from Pearl? Is it just a cab to a ferry in Puerto Morales or Cancun? Once on the island is a nice beach walkable or is taxi service advisable? Any guidance would be appreciated as we have never been to this area - if there are other easier nice beach destinations around the resort we are open to that as well. Thank you!

It's a really long and expensive way to go for some different type of beach time.

A taxi one way from Pearl to the Ultramar high-speed ferry terminal in Puerto Juarez(near Cancun) will take approx 1 hour and be about $60 usd each way. The ferries run from 11 AM to 9 PM and the trip from the ferry terminal in Puerto Juarez to Isla Muejeres takes about 30 min, cost for two on the ferry is about $45 usd round trip.

Once on Isla Muejeres you would have to rent a golf cart for the day to get to any of the nice beaches ( I don't know what the current cost of renting a golf cart would be)

Wow - didn't realize it was such a long cab ride to the ferry. Was thinking of heading there to snorkel with the whale sharks since they are in the area during this time period. Maybe I am better off booking a tour that picks you up from the hotel. Either way looks like it will definitely be a full day away from Pearl to do it. Has anyone done one of these snorkel tours from the resort?

FYI - the largest and best reef for snorkeling is located right in front of Pearl and runs from just south of Cancun to Cozumel - you can book a snorkeling trip at the resort either morning or afternoon and only be away from the resort for 2 or 3 hours max. (no whale sharks on this reef, but lots of other fish, rays, etc ) ;)

Peak whale shark sightings off/around Isla Mujeres, Isla Contoy, and Isla Holbox is July through August, but as mentioned previously it's an all day affair, expensive and no guarantee of seeing any whale sharks .........

We are doing the whale shark excursion before we go to Pearl middle of july - but we are going directly from airport to ferry and staying on Isle Mujeres for 2 nights - and as CokeMan said it is an all day affair - will let you know how the actual whale shark day is

That may be a possibility! Can you also take a ferry to Cozumel and enjoy pristine beaches free of the sargassum?

Yes, about the same costs and time as doing Isla Muejeres.
