Beach Usable?

Hello! My wife and I are arriving Friday - 1st time visitors after having rescheduled 2 times over the past 18 months due to COVID! Excited but nervous that the time is almost here - we have never been naked outside of our house so will be interesting to see if we dip our toes into the water!!

My question is for those that are there or have been recently - is the beach usable at all or is it just consistently gross? I understand that the currents and winds may change the conditions every day - but if we are there for 8 days should we expect a day or 2 of decent beach? Otherwise looking at scheduling a trip offsite so that we have one nice beach day somewhere.

Thanks all!

We are here now and leave on Saturday. Unfortunately the beach is terrible. Lots of piled up seaweed and it is eroded pretty bad. Plenty of beach beds but the smell is awful so we don’t go out there.

Bummer - thank you though - looks like we will have to plan a beach day offsite.

Not sure I'd bother. The sargassum is allllllll over the entire coastline. I've heard it's worse in Tulum. We did an offsite excursion and it was even in the north beach area at the northwest corner at Isla Mujeres, which it never is.

This year is not the year to go to the beach there.

Check the Facebook group "Sargasso Seaweed Updates Riviera Maya". It's quite active and gives updates for many sites from Holbox to Cancun to Tulum...
Conditions quite variable...

We just got back from RM. The seaweed situation seems to vary by the day, but we did enjoy the beach every day we were there (July 18-22). There was a noticeable odor our very first evening. On another evening, we were in the roof top hot tub at RM and could see the sargassum floating in giant clumps out in the ocean, but by Wednesday morning, the beach was much clearer. I assume that Pearl's beach condition wouldn't be that different from RMs on any given day.
