Late night arrival or wait for next day?

We are planning our first trip to Desire Pearl in December and would stay for 9 nights. My wife an I (both 52 and happily married for more than 20 years) have visited several nudist places and enjoyed the time there a lot. We are also very open minded to what we have read about Desire, but want to get into all of this gently. Since we are complete newbies and have no experience with such surroundings, we would in general appreciate any advice for the best way to get into the “Desire World”.
In particular we have a question: Our plane would arrive in the evening, so we would not be at the resort before 11pm. Would it maybe be better to stay in another hotel for the first night and come to the resort next morning to start smooth? At night the first steps into this life - when people are partying - might have a negative impact on Mrs emte? What time can we expect to get our room, since hanging around without a room might also not be the best. Can anyone help us with an advice?

Most definitely grab a hotel by the airport (Marriott, etc) that first night and take a cab to the hotel in the morning. When you check in, they will hold your luggage until the room is ready. You can take a small bag to the pool or beach and also use a locker in the spa with a change of clothes if you would like. The spa is handy if you need to shower before you get your room.

We do this all the time, never an issue!

I agree with EddieandJojo... definitely do not waste your money by paying for a whole DAY at Desire, when you are just going to sleep anyway.

We operate on the basic premise of weighing what we would miss if we didn’t head to the resort directly. For us it comes down to a cut off of around an 8 pm arrival.

We always arrive in the evening and spend that night at the Comfort Inn Aeropuerto p, we have the shuttle pick us up at 11 am and we are at the resort in about 15 minutes

We always arrive in Cancun around 6pm and stay the night at the Marriott Courtyard Airport - then get a shuttle (USA Transfers) to Desire in the morning, and as others have said, leave your luggage at check-in until your room is ready.

There is no use in spending all that money to miss almost a full day at Desire!

I agree with all the responses; best thing is spend the first night at an airport hotel.
I think the best option is NH Cancun Airport, which is on the way to Desire, about 6 miles southbound from airport.
It's a very nice Spanish chain hotel and the next morning you'll be at DRM in less than 15 minutes.
Most of other airport hotels are in the opposite direction to Desire.

The airport Marriott is just slightly north of the exit from the airport, but the bonus of staying there is that they offer a free shuttle to pick you up from the airport and then your transfer company can pick you up from there in the morning and it's a quick direct drive on the highway to either Desire property ;)

We fly in the night before a lot. We would always stay at the Marriott but the last time we were there it was closed and we stayed at the sister hotel next door the Fairfield Inn. We would have our car pick us up at 7am and to the resort by 7:20am.

A different perspective:

We generally fly in from the west coast, so it’s a long flight. Because kids we only get one trip a year.
So for us, it’s a question of saving a couple hundred bucks to wake up at not-desire, transfer, and check in vs. roll out of bed and walk over to Aphrodite in the morning.
Definitely see the point of the other posters, but for us it’s worth getting to Desire sooner, even if our effective rate for those few extra hours is much higher.

We have recently been to Pearl for our first time and we flew in from the Uk. When our original direct flights were cancelled we made a decision to fly to Cancun a couple of nights earlier to allow us to get over the tiredness and the 24 hour journey from door to door. We also arrived late into Cancun ( 2230 - be aware immigration at night is very slow, it took us 90 mins to clear). We booked a little boutique hotel in downtown Cancun for 2 nights and then transferred to Pearl on the Saturday early morning.

It was the best decision ever. Although we thought we would be desperate to get to the resort, the recovery in Cancun was revitalising allowing us to get to Pearl ready for the foam party fully invigorated and ready to party! which we did for the whole week! Had we not done it we would have arrived in Mexico in a different time zone ( 6 hours difference - similar to you) and would have lost the first day or so after. Trust me, if you're like us, you don't stop once you're there so you would never catch up!

Were booking for next year already and will do the same, we may even add a day on to allow us to go on a trip out before we get to Pearl as there is no way you want to leave the resort once you're there :)

It was also our first time and it was nice to get into the pool and meet and chat to people during our first day. Im not sure we would have done that by just going to the Hot tub late at night after arriving. After a day at the resort, you're open to anything and very very relaxed, not sure I would have wanted to wake in the morning, tired and then have to stress about making that first venture to breakfast and the pool. It can be nerve racking for the first time whatever anyone says but don't worry within a short time you'll feel at home. Its a wonderful place.

Thank you all for your replies that helped us a lot. We now took the decision to stay one night in a hotel near the airport and go to DP the next morning. We will arrive 28th Dec. and stay for 8 nights. We are very exited and looking forward on what we will experience :D

The night before check-in we stayed at Abbey Del Sole, a small boutique hotel located as close as you can get to Pearl.
Its a 1/4 mile down the jungle road.
In the morning there was a Limo Driver waiting to pick up at Pearl. I gave him 10 bucks to drop us off.

We are going for 6 nights in December (our second trip) and are going to try staying at the Marriott at the airport the night we get there (around 7 p.m.). While we'll miss the festivities that night, but I'm not sure getting there at 8 p.m. or later is worth the room cost. We'll probably get up, grab breakfast and do USA Transfers from the Marriott to Pearl around 10 a.m. on Saturday. That way we're there in plenty of time for the foam party! :-)
