Can you detect it in the pool or in the jacuzzi? How about the lobby, or the restaurants, or the club?

Obviously, bdb could give you a more up to date description as they are there now.

We were there mid-June. There was a ton of it everywhere. I would guestimate 6" to a foot deep and a solid 3'-4' wide strip along the entire edge of the water. When we were there, the pier had not officially opened, but I walked out onto it...had to step over the sargassum to get to it.

You could smell it when up close to it. I wouldn't call it super offensive (side note...I grew up on Cape Cod so the sargassum smell is no worse than a typical low tide smell...maybe even not as bad). There was absolutely no smell at the pool or jacuzzi. Obviously, heat, wind direction, etc could affect that. If you can't smell it at the pool, you won't smell it anywhere near the lobby or disco.

It sucks that it messes up the beach, but there's absolutely no use worrying about it. June was our very first trip to Pearl, and we did not miss being on the beach for 1 minute...and both my wife and I grew up on beaches.

Great to hear your perspective Sparky. The ocean breezes are always great. We are land locked in Denver so love getting to the Caribbean, Mexico coastlines and the shores in general. We anticipate spending our time at the pool and jacuzzi, with an occasional stroll down the beach if/when possible. So glad your experience this summer was good -- thanks for the share. And, you're right -- it is what it is. Grin and bare it. :D

You can definitely notice it by the pool. It’s not Pathan bad. As someone said just grin and bear it. Other than that everything else here is awesome

Yesterday the staff worked all day with a back hoe and front end loader cleaning the beach. It’s a tough battle. It’s way better today. We walked to Puerto Morelos this morning and it’s the same everywhere.

My Apple Watch clocked it at (almost exactly) 1 mile. Thus depending on your walking pace, about 20 minutes.

We just got back yesterday (8/5) and it was kind of rough this week. However, on Wednesday night there was a pretty good storm and that always seems to mix things up in the water. You can't predict this stuff. It just happens. In my opinion, it's a downer but certainly not something that will ruin your trip. It is what it is. You can't control it, so I recommend you just accept it and find enjoyment everywhere else at the resort.

The large amounts of Sargassum is a product of global warming, and its just worsening unless we make a course correction and care enough about saving the planet.

Updates??? Looks like the situation has improved from looking at other online resources. Appears to be better in the winter usually. What's the beach situation at DP? Beach lounges, beds and volleyball functional??

We were there in early December. The Sargassum had lessened, but was still present. The beach has experienced some pretty severe erosion; eliminating many palm trees, most of the palapa umbrellas, and has brought the volleyball court closer to the pool bar. The beach beds are still there.

In early December it was swimmable once you got past the first few feet. But this changes weekly.
