Just a heads up: Sargassum (seaweed) levels are expected to be very high this year.

https://thecancunsun.com/2023-to-be-a-r ... caribbean/

"...this year’s arrival of sargassum could be unlike any seen before."

and

https://www.npr.org/2023/03/15/11633851 ... co-beaches

"... the latest bloom has already doubled every month from November to January.

And, thanks to ocean currents, the belt is continuing to migrate westward, threatening beaches along the Florida Keys, along with Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula and the eastern Caribbean.

An estimated 200 tons of sargassum already began washing up on beaches along the Yucatán Peninsula earlier this month..."

Has any one been to the Pearl in the last few days? What is the sargassum situation like right now?

Was there last week.

Wasn’t too bad. Small line on the beach that’s being constantly worked on. There were still patches of turquoise water around the pier and inside the barrier.

Any recent updates with the Sargassum? Has it impacted your vacation/enjoyment of the resort at all?

We got pics this week. It’s being dealt with as well as can be expected.

It’s never bothered us. But we don’t go for the beach. Plenty of other beaches in the world.

I 100% agree with this.

While I don't have any recent 1st hand info (we're heading back in June), we were there last June. The sargassum was everywhere. As others have said, it rendered the beach useless. They had a boom, but it too was useless. The resort did everything it could, but they were literally the little Dutch boy with their fingers in the dyke. I will say you could not smell ANY hint of it. That includes being on the beach side of the swim up bar at the pool.

For reference, we were also there in December and saw the beach in perfect condition.

Does this mean there are no more beach beds to enjoy?

We were there last month and there were still beach beds and people occupying them.

We were just there a couple of weeks ago. Just a few notes for others asking:

- The day we arrived the sargassum was pretty bad
- Every single day we were there it got better.
- After 3-4 days, it was completely gone from the beach and the water was much much clearer.

We were on the beach every single day. But, we don't mind it even when it is there. By the end of our trip, we were in the ocean.

It is sargassum season right now so every week is going to be different. And based on our experience, every day will be different. It has very little effect on our enjoyment of the resort or our overall experience at all.

So what was the status of the Sargassum for the summer of 2023? We are looking to book for next summer, and we are wondering about what is being done (or not being done) at Pearl.

In the summer of 2022 it was pretty bad (for us).

Same for us. We were there Oct 26-Nov 2.

Beach looked amazing. No smell, no blooms. Beach beds were always occupied. Perfect, other than the beach being incredibly short and super steep. Can’t have everything I guess.
