The new Desire Pearl resort

This is the place for general questions / discussions about Desire Pearl

When we were at Desire in mid-November a couple told us that the timeshare sales person said that the Desire resort was going to be members only. The couple was told this when they said they wanted to think about becoming members. The same couple took a tour of Desire Pearl and said they thought it was very nice.

I think you missed this post below earlier in the thread - which is absolutely correct btw

mfay wrote:The "rumors" you heard were started by the membership/timeshare sales people. Several people there in November heard the same things, and this happens every few months it seems. Then complaints are made and they are forced to stop making these false statements for a while- until they get desperate again.
Anyway- Desire management says it is absolutely untrue. Timeshare/membership sales people are the same all over the world- anything to make a sale.
Desire just went 3 straight years at the same rates and then had a very small 4% increase for 2012. Those rates are locked in and all the same promo's are in effect. As for the membership only thing- it's doubtful they could even average 15% occupancy with members only let alone the 80% they are used to.
Don't be surprised though if Desire Pearl's pricing is considerably higher than original Desire- at least that is our guess.

Thanks so much, mfay, for the positive comments. From what we've seen in the photos, Ceiba is a beautiful property and looks much bigger than just 88 rooms. We agree that it really doesn't look like it would take much to make it into a Desire property.

As for the price - folks already 'complain' about Desire Cancun being pricey so this is what kind of makes us think that there may not be the market for higher pricing.

Yes, Braco and a Hedo have closed, which makes room for another adult vacation destination but with the economy the way it is, time will tell whether or not the Desire Pearl will be able to charge much higher prices than Desire Cancun already does.

What are the thoughts on whether or not the beach in front of the Ceiba can / will be clothing optional? How close in proximity are the neighbouring properties?

The beach was clothing optional during takeovers at Cieba. When we were on the beach their was a little less foot traffic than you see at Desire. Azul is closer to Desire than any hotel at Cieba. There are condos not too far from Cieba.

Thanks so much, shade. Good to know, cuz I know that having a clothing optional beach is important to some people - that's why they won't go to Desire Cabo.

We think it looks great and we're excited. I read the reviews on it as Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort and they were glowing. We all know it will go up from there. We like Desire Cancun but there a few things that could be upgraded and they might just be at this property. If it's a few more bucks, so be it. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for. :)

May or June...we'll likely be there. Hope to see you there!

Happy Holidays to all.

When we said any minute we weren't kidding.
We have seen some rates for Pearl. these rates happen to be for July with a group but we assume the regular weekly rates- for the off season with early booking- will be similar.
Deluxe rooms= $543 p/room, Junior/mini suites=
$580 p/room, Master suite= $652 p/room, and Penthouse= $746 p/room. There is also a 6th night free deal that applies to these rates for early bookings. Not sure if that is only for the group ?

We spoke to Alessio in October - he indicated they were looking for another location for large groups/takeovers - one resort would be for individual couples and the other for group events. Not sure what the end result will be.

Desire is booked two nights when we get to Mexico on our next trip the end of February. Any way to tell if much would be going on at the future Pearl on the 23rd and 24th of February?

It looks nice so may stay there no matter what.

Desire Pearl does not open until March 30th 2012 - so you will have to find another place to stay - check out the recommendation I posted on your other thread in the arriving section.

Looks like I had a case of "premature enumeration".............
The rates above are what are posted by a travel agent for two groups that were doing Ceiba Del Mar lifestyle takeovers- one in april and one in July.
Whether they will change now we don't know- but here are the official Desire Pearl rates as posted on their website- regular & promo:

Deluxe room=(april)= $295/$270 (may-dec)=$250/$200 -per person
Junior Suite= (april)= $365/$340 (may-dec)= $325/$260 -per person
Master Suite= (april)= $390/$365 (may-dec)= $340/$272 -per person
Penthouse Passion Suite= (april)= $598 (may-dec)- $520 -per person

Yes- and you'll see that many of them list that they are for up to 4 people.
We have actually heard that they might possible allow a third person in some rooms (but not 4). The website does say "couples only" and I'm not sure how that would all work- if it's actually true. If it is I'm sure there will be some explanation forthcoming.
