Resort Combo ?

Hi

Our travel agent has suggested that we consider splitting our 8 nights in December between HBR and Desire Pearl. Change of scenery, People etc. Seems to make some sense, any input or comments? We are first timers.

Thanks!

First of all, neither Desire Pearl or HBR are in Cancun or the Cancun hotel zone so I'm changing the topic title to Resort Combo

(HBR) Hidden Beach Resort is a very small (40 room) AANR type place about one hour by car south of Desire Pearl.

The "in" joke about the Hidden Beach Resort name is that you can't actually go swimming off the beach at this resort since it is too rocky with coral that cut your feet trying to get in the water whcih is very shallow for a long way out. So if you want to swim in the ocean you will have to put on bathing suits and go to the sister resort (El Dorado) next door and use their beach.

If you are looking for a a place that the two of you can just get away from it all and have a very quiet time with very few other guests, no day or night on property entertainment, where you can just be nude (no PDA allowed) decent food and pay about the same or a bit more than Pearl then HBR might be the place for you.

However IMHO if you wanted to split your time between two properties I would choose Pearl and Desire Riviera Maya(only 15 min apart) they are different enough that you will get the most out of your vacation time.

Thank you for the good advice and quick response! We will have a tough decision! In any event we plan a day trip to Desire Riviera Maya.

Thanks!

Let me ask you this, is 8 nights too much at Pearl? Saturday thru the following Sunday. Do people come each day as new guests or mostly on Saturdays? Again appreciate your input, we may skip HBR.

Thanks!

Personally we have done 22+ trips to Desire (mostly Riviera Maya) and one recently to Desire Pearl(Sept '12) and find that the optimum amount of time for us is a minimum of 7 night and a maximum of 10 nights.

Generally at all the Desire resorts there are people that come and go throughout the week, unlike other resorts that are offered by trip packagers where almost all of the resort "turns over" every Saturday.

I don't think you will be bored staying just at Pearl for your entire stay, but you can always go into Puerto Morelos for a walk around, head up to the Cancun Hotel Zone and do Coco Bongo one night, go to Playa del Carmen for lunch and some shopping, etc - but IMHO once you get to Desire Pearl "sand gravity" and the general atmosphere of Pearl will take over and you will have no desire to venture "off campus" - lol

Great thanks! Almost every review I have seen on this site or on Trip Advisor has been positive about Pearl.

So one thing we have been really anxious about is venturing off-resort for day trips. Granted, what could there possibly be to do that would be more enjoyable than what Desire holds for us?!?! But still, it might be neat to have something to talk about when we get back home to the kiddos and in laws :-(w) As sheltered and lame-o as this sounds, is the area safe for sight seeing?

The whole area is great and safe! You can walk to puerto Morelos via the beach or simply jump on the bikes for a street stroll!
The people are amazing and venturing off we also discovered a huge amount of Canadians and Americans actually winter (4-5 months avrg.)
Around the town!
If you want more details just pm me!
P.s. taking pics of another resort always helps with the kiddos or inlaws lol!

When you say bikes, do you mean that Desire Pearl has bikes we can use? Also, does Desire Pearl have snorkel gear we can use?

That's cool they have the bikes. Is it possible to bike over to RM? We've never been to either and wouldn't mind checking it out one day. If not, we can always take a cab since they no longer have the shuttle I heard about before. And I guess it wouldn't be a good idea to bike over there naked, would it?

And too bad about the snorkel gear...guess we'll just take a trip out from the pier in Puerto Morelas.
