Aphrodite Closed?

Read in a trip report that Aphrodite is closed. Anyone know when it re-opens? Why it's closed? And where lunches are eaten now? If this is true and Pearl is the only restaurant open this is a huge deal to us.

They closed on 8/19 to do a complete remodel. One of the wait staff said for 6 weeks but not sure about that as being "official". If you are thinking about going in this time frame, give them a call and see when they expect to reopen.

We are going on Friday. I hope we will be able to say we barely noticed it wasn't open. An upgrade to a Passion suite would go a long way to mending this fence though.

We arrived on Friday and Aphrodite closed on Monday. Stayed until Saturday. Did not seem like too big an interruption to us but occupancy was not high. Breakfast was served outside the Pearl resturant and you could eat inside or out. They brought out some assorted items to the pool for lunch in the after like nachos, dip and finger sandwiches etc. You could also eat at the Pearl if you wished. We always like eating dinner at the Pearl but usually went early at around 6:30. The picture of the upgrade to Aphrodite looks very nice.

Is it true that they are enclosing the patio, to provide air conditioning? To those that have seen the plans / rendering of the new space, will there still be an outdoor eating option? One of the things that we loved about breakfast & lunch was the outdoor eating space - it never seemed too hot, or hot enough to require air con since we were always in shorts or less to eat at those times of the day.

They had dry wall/rock sheets up around the entrance area behind the pool, restrooms still open down the steps to the right. Had a large picture of the new restaurant on the drywall. Looked very nice. Will see how it turns out next time we go. Soon I hope. Probably Feb. 14. :D

Also don't know if the outside area would be enclosed, hard to tell by the picture.

Just returned. They have a pretty good sized crew in Aphrodite working. The demolition phase is over and putting it back together. Basic structure..roof and supports reused. They were adding bulkheads and walls when we left. Some workers said it was a 6 week project. So about 4 weeks left. The picture looks very nice and appears more upscale than original. It should retain the indoor/outdoor concept. So we can still sit outside and enjoy the ocean view and breezes.
I wouldn't let the construction prevent anyone from going. They set up a grill around the pool for lunch and you could always go up and eat at the Pearl off the menu or sit on the terrace at the Pearl for a buffet lunch.
At dinner they came up with beach dinners and special Chef's dinners at other locations. One night we had Asian/Sushi up on the terrace above Aphrodite.
They really tried to make food not an issue. The food and service was very good, much better than our trip in May.

Last night, the tables outside the Pearl restaurant were the "Asian" cuisine restaurant. Inside was the more Mediterranean menu. Effectively two restaurants at one location. Resort is only half full so never a problem with seating. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are the dinners by the ocean under the Palapas but you do need to sign up for that and it is weather dependant. We are going to try that tonight and will post a report. The large artist rendering outside the Aphrodite does look very upscale and modern. If there is one thing Alessio (manager ) is very good at, it is motivating construction crews. Impressive in Mexico.
