Hi
We will be there next week (tomorrow

) and may venture out for a local dinner somewhere close. Another poster mentioned a beach bar called Merkadito del Mar, is anyone familiar with this and is it just a bar or also a restaurant?
Look for us at the pool tomorrow afternoon,
Dave & Mary

There are many 'Hole in the wall' local restaurants in Peurto Morelos - both along the beach, and in the old town. Over the years we've eaten at a number of them, and have a couple of favourites... but sadly we've never made note of their names - just where they are.
Definitely more of a casual lunchtime destination, than a dress up fine dining night out.

There is one fairly upscale restaurant in Puerto Morelos, it's called
John Grays Kitchen. Just be aware it's a $25 taxi ride each way, so that you are in for $50 even before you start ordering dinner.
As mentioned previously most of the PM restaurants are more in the lunch or casual dinner category - for anything more upscale you would have to head down to Playa del Carmen or up into Cancun.

There's a yummy Argentinian restaurant in town with great empanadas, steaks and wine -we go there every time we visit:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R ... ml#REVIEWSAlso there's a decent Chinese spot called David Laus in town too - its pretty busy, but good food and a nice chance from the Desire cuisine after a few days:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R ... nsula.htmlLastly, we liked tacos.com, more for lunch, it looks sketchy and the guy cooks your food on a small stove right at the entrance, its very very casual and basically outdoor dining but the food was GOOD!!! Huge portions and great food!
Enjoy! Two week countdown for us!!

Oh no! Didn't know David Laus was shutdown! Bummer, when we were there in May we just thought it was closed because it was low season - never been to speghettinos - will have to look it up - we are usually ready for a different mean after 4-5 days.

We were there in March, and we actually went to Merkadito del Mar. We did a trip report on it when we came back. The food was great, but the margaritas were outstanding.
They make them on ice, but I suggest asking for a blended one, much better.
Take a cab both ways, unless you walk down the beach in the day and come home after dark. Make sure you have the hotel write down the place you are staying at for the cab driver, or they may take you somewhere else by mistake.
