First time going to Pearl on the 17th - Can someone tell me exactly what is in the Gym? Free weights (bars, dumbbell's, both?), machines, treadmills?

We were at Pearl last May, and we were told that the free weights (dumbbells) would be updated soon. Can anyone confirm/deny that?

The gyms sucks !!! This is the only part of the resort we were disappointed about if you just wanna hop on a treadmill or lift a couple dumbos then you can do that . They don't have a bench press and the weight lifting area is about 3 ft away from the five or six bikes and treadmills so it makes it really awkward to actually have a good lift it's almost like you have an audience. Funny how that made me feel awkward when about 6 hrs earlier I was having sex with my wife at the hot tub infront of Probley 50 people lol. I ended up running the beach and just doing push up routines in my room. We're arriving may 10th hopefully it has been updated

Thanks Jandk - So that leads me to my other question - We are runners as well and want to do that down there. Can you actually run on the beach (packed sand) or on the road? Any idea on safety with that?

You can run on the beach. I have done it at the water line barefoot. The sand is fluffy if you get out of the water and you won't go very far. The only issues that I had were that it was difficult to judge how far to go and I didn't take a water bottle with me. I don't think you could pay me to run on the roads.

I ran on the roads behind Pearl, both directions. No problem.

Yeah you can run on the shore line where the sand is packed as you will see when arriving to pearl the roads are not the best ( understatment)

Thanks to all of you for responding - Even though I am on vacation, I'm probably going to try and get in 20-25 miles during the 4 full days that we are there. I'll give the water line a shot and try the roads if there is some semblance of a shoulder or its not a mega highway. I'll figure it out and I guess there is the treadmill if all else fails.
Thanks for all the advice - J

Does Pearl still charge to use the steam room and sauna at the gym?

Last May I actually unpacked brand new dumb bells.. I think they went up to 60lbs.. There is enough equipment in this gym to get a good workout.. When on vacation you always have to be a bit creative...

We found the fitness room adequate. Its comparable and better than most resorts for a person or couple on vacation. No its not like your fitness at home, however. We enjoyed it each morning. Cardio machines, circuit weight machines and dumbbells all were working (a little dated) and the room was air conditioned and very clean.

Just got back and both the Gym and running environment were fine (for my needs). I ran on the beach and the roads behind Pearl and a) felt safe on both b) could run far enough for a great workout (6 miles for me for each run). If you are a runner, you can get decent runs in and its always really interesting to see the place when you are running behind the scenes
