How do the locals feel about Pearl?

We first went to pearl in the second week it was opened. The news was that the locals were not happy about this type of resort being plopped down in their back yard. I always suspected that would change once they were able to experience the quality of the type of folks who visit these types of resorts. Happy and generous travelors with a little money in their pockets can do nothing but boost a positive feeling among (at least) the business owners of Puerto Moralos. So, in the eyes of the local residents, are we sinners or do we have our own plaque on the PM Chamber of Commerce???

At the end of one of our trips to Pearl, several Mexican couples arrived as guests to the resort as it was a holiday weekend for them.

Some time ago when I posted on Trip Advisor I got a reply from a person who explained that the locals do not like the situation in view of their conservative culture (Catholicism has a lot to answer for in this direction) and suggested that there were moves in Puerto Morelos to oppose the nudity at the hotel. The person was suggesting that there is open sex on the beach in full view of the passing locals.

I dont think that this will be successful as the hotel sets up rules to keep sexual activity behind barricades so that it is not visible. I think however that we would all be well served by observing those rules and ensuring that nobody in local government is handed the grounds to take the opposition further. The last thing I need is for my favorite hotel to be closed by the loud voices of the conservative right.

We need, as I explained in my reply to the person, to respect everybody's position and try as best we can to accomodate all views on the world ---no matter how foolish, misguided and damaging they may appear to be. (I didn't include the last bit).

I will write as a Mexican, nudist, Desire fan, non resident in Puerto Morelos, but with a wide understanding about the ideology of my co-citizens:
We've been in several nudist beaches along Mexico and always chat with locals, trying to understand their idiosyncrasy about nudism.
People of other countries perceive Mexico as a very conservative country, caused by catholicism, the predominant religion. This is not exactly true, and things vary a lot from a region to another.

In communities with native indian population, the nude human body is not an issue. You may see, mainly on Saturdays, women washing clothes by the rivers with their breasts exposed. Later, they and their children use to bath into the river, completely nude, without ashame or prejudices. Breastfeeding in public is common in native indian people and no one raises an eyebrow.

Temazcal is a prehispanic tradition, and in native indian communities, people enter naked to the ceremony.
In Oaxaca, Michoacan and Quintana Roo coasts, nudism at beaches comes from time before Spanish arrived to Mexico, so in the sixties, the European tourists found an open society for practicing topless and nudism.

I bet that residents of Puerto Morelos don't see in a negative manner the nudism at their beaches. Annoying looks could come from Mexican tourists coming from states of the Center of country, like Puebla, Queretaro or Guanajuato,where prudery is similar to Midwest in United States.

On the other hand, I'm sure sexual activities at the beach will not be good seen for Mexican people, so we may conclude that Desire Pearl will not be closed or restricted, while hotel and guests respect the norm of not have any PDS at the beach.
