Traveling to Mexican Caribbean since 1974, I've learned two things about rain:
1. In Summer, even though the forecast says: "Cloudy with showers", if there is not a tropical storm or hurricane, it is typical that 70% of the day is sunny and the rain fall overnight. It is also common to have a sudden cloudy, heavy rain for 15 or 20 minutes, and an hour later the sun is shining again.
2. However, if there is a hurricane or tropical storm, you can wait 3 to 4 days of constant rain and cloudy. It is advisable to check the National Hurricane Center page a few days before your trip.
