My wife and I are going to Pearl next year after visiting Cabo in 2013. We weren't impressed with the lunches there, so we were thinking about going offsite for lunch. Are there a lot of places near to Pearl that we could visit??

No need! The food at Pearl is awesome! And even if (somehow) there isn't anything you fancy, just ask, these guys go out of their way to please.
Mr, one lunchtime "what's the cream soup of the day?" Waiter "the chef hasn't made it yet, what do you like?" Mr. "Asparagus?"" 20 mins later the most delicious asparagus soup arrives...

In addition to the buffet, Pearl has a very nice lunch menu that you can order off of. Later in the week, we discovered the tempura fish and shrimp tacos with chipotle sauce, salsa and guac..... highly recommend for a GREAT lunch. But, if you want to eat off property, exit the resort on the beach, turn right, and walk along the water for about 15-20 minutes to the center of Puerto Morelos (white leaning tower). There are a multitude of restaurants around the town square, for a quick and easy bite. We ate at El Merkadito, which you can actually access from the beach, before reaching the town center. Ceviche was excellent, and everything we saw being served looked great. Lots of shops in town too, if you're needing to bring souvenirs home.
