About how much did you spend on tips?

As our trip quickly approaches we are at the point of just guessing on how much tip money to bring. We will be there 8 days and 7 nights. Do you remember on average how much in tips you spent during the length of your stay?

I just don't want to bring too many small bills nor do I want us to run out.

We spent probably around $250 in that same 8 night/7 day timeframe. Bigger tips went to the three butlers and Victor, Jared, Ebe who took very good care of us, then the rest for meals, drinks at the bar, housekeeping, etc.

We stayed in ocean view for 5 nights. Spent about $75

We spent around $5,000.00 pesos ($400 Dlls.) during our July trip of 8 nights.
I brought that amount in $50 and $100 pesos bills ($4 and $8 Dlls).
This was my way to tipping:
Towels guy (Victor or Jared): $50 pesos each day, $200 at the end of vacation to each one. Total: $800.
Beach waitress (Ebe): $50 pesos each day. Total: $400.
Breakfast and lunch waiter (Graciliano "G"): $50 for a regular breakfast, $100 if we ask for something special. $400 at the end of vacation. Total: $1,800.
Dinner waiter (Fernelli or Martín): $100 to $150 per night. Total: $1,000.
Massage (Manuel): $200. to $300. Total: $500.
Here and there: $500.
I highly reccomend to be splendid with the staff. Their base salary is around $12 Dlls A DAY (Not an hour), and even cost of life in Mexico is lower than in US, Cancun and Riviera Maya are one of the most expensive places to live. I estimate a head of family of middle class, need to earn at least $2,500. a month for have a good quality of life. They offer their best effort for us, guests, have a great time during our stay at Desire. They deserve a good compensation.

We typically spend a dollar or two when we order a drink probably 25 a day, 5 dollars for the maid, five dollars for lunch, 10 dollars for supper, and if we have a butler i usually tip 50 to start and 50 at the end 5 dollar tips in between. Tipping is up to you tips are supposed to be included, we are afraid they won't give them much, we love to tip because of how hard all the employs work how friendly and truly feel they love working there. Have a great trip and don't worry do what your comfortable with you will get great service no matter what you give.
