Music in the Disco

Postby Hutmaster » Mon Sep 01, 2014 3:54 pm

It seems that everyone comes away with the same impression that the music is consistently lacking and seems to drive people away. Why not allow the patrons to supply music, change DJ's, change the genre towards the likes of the patrons. I can't speak for everyone, but the music we like is probably the music we danced to in college. Music of the 80-90's for most of us. Thoughts?

Also, I've heard the same things for the pool area.

The music was so bad last year when we went in Sept that we are thinking of bringing our own mix on ipod and see if they will use it at least once. The pool music was just background noise. The upside was it got us into the hot tub faster! 80's dance music would be perfect!

We haven't actually been to the Pearl disco yet (other than during the day when we were visiting from DRM) but given the repetition we've seen at DLC and DRM and the similar comments about Pearl, it seems safe to comment :D

Back in January we were at DRM and we went up to the disco fairly early while most people were still watching the live band that was part of that evening's entertainment program. We made a request to the DJ for a song, probably Professional Widow or something else involving Armand van Helden, and they played it, and then proceeded to read our minds for the next half hour while we were pretty much the only two on the dance floor. We went to sit down when he put on something we didn't care for, and he stopped it and went back to more of the late 90s early 2000s electronic dance stuff that we greatly enjoyed. However, as soon as the disco started to fill up, it quickly went back to the same songs you'd hear every other night. So we moved into the playroom...

So we guess what we're trying to say is that the DJs are quite capable of mixing it up, but for whatever reason, they don't. It would be interested if they experimented on different genres each night, e.g. modern top 40 one night, followed by an 80s night, etc. But as BubbaCal says, it's hard to complain too much when the result of us not liking the music means we just get to the hot tub sooner.

We've tried everything... bribing, tipping, asking politely, having an entire group of us ask politely, even had an entire group walk out of the disco because of the repetitiveness and nothing changed. We did get a questionnaire at Pearl last time we were there specifically about the music. We filled it out honestly. Maybe others filling out the same survey are not paying enough attention to the music to care. For some reason, they will not change the music. Ever.

We bring a portable Bose speaker when we travel (it sounds pretty damn good for its' size) and we find that the party surrounds that thing wherever we take it.... outside of the disco, of course! And, yes, we do take requests so long as there are sexy bribes to go along with said requests!!

I guess it depends on your music tastes and when you are there. In May whenever we made a request he would play it. He then when play several songs in the same genre, which was electronic dance music for us.
Returning to RM 4/9/22 to 4/15/22. Can’t wait!
