Will be there in January for our first trip. We would like to take a day do something off-site like Parasailing or Snorkeling. Has anyone had experience doing so? Do they run trip from the resort? Or are we on our own?

Not sure about parasailing but snorkeling is easy. Go to the dive shop at Pearl. Cesar and Sara will take good care of you. There are decent places to go very close to Pearl. Go in the morning and they will have you back in a couple of hours. That way you will not to miss out on what you came to Pearl for in the first place.
We dive with them every time. Tell them John and Sara said hello.

The dive shop also offers some very nice scuba diving for all skill levels.

Go snorkeling at Xel-Ha. For entrance fee you get a locker, gear, all the food and drink from theirrestaurants and at least 4 hours of snorkeling. We go every time we are near Riviera Maya. It's a nice protected inlet with no waves and lots of fish.

FYI - It's not permitted over the protected reef area so you would have to go to Cancun or Playa del Carmen to do it.

We are headed to DP for our 5th trip and each time we try and plan a day trip to do something where we can actually take photos to show our families We have used the dive shop to go scuba diving, they are great. We also did a day trip to Tulum and snorkeled at the Cenotes there, loved that. Finally we have done a day trip to Playa del Carmen to hangout, buy souvenirs, etc. All booked through hotel - I am not sure what we will pick to do this year, I hear great things about Xel-Ha

Yes, Xel-Ha is great we've done it several times - definitely better though if you can get another couple or two to go along with you

One of the couples we hung out with spent the day at Xel-Ha. They had been there previously and loved it. We will probably check it out again the next time we are there.
