Beach at Pearl

Postby SoNotFun » Thu Oct 23, 2014 11:50 am

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone can give a quick review of the beach at Pearl? Are there big rocks, strong undertoe, or other things to look out for? A beautiful beach is not always a swim-friendly beach, and I do like playing in the waves 8) Thanks! -N.

While the beach area is nice, we didn't go in the water except to retrieve the volley ball a few times. There is *tons* of seaweed and it just didn't look that appealing. Plus, after hearing stories of the "sea lice" that might live in the weed, we were even less interested.

It was not the crystal blue water that we are used to seeing in the BVI or St. Martin area. Maybe we had an off couple of days but there are lots of posts about the seaweed.

When it's not windy, the sea is lovely. Not rocky, bit of shale, maybe need water shoes. It's wonderful to go out by the pier and snorkel, there are thousands of fish under there! Or just walk down the pier and view from above.
Wish I was there right now!

I walked in the surf when we were there last week and did end up with a rash on my feet and ankles. I didn't know about anything living in the sea weed, but it doesn't surprise me to read. I would figure going off the pier would be better. :)

The beach is quite nice. There were little twigs (?) in the sand that caught my feet every now and again. I recommend wearing a pair of shoes in the sand. Laying on the beach, with the warm sand and breeze is heaven. It's also a little quieter than the pool area.

We were told last month that the seaweed problem was do to a bad offshore storm. In pass years seaweed wasn't a issue, they would clean the beach once in the AM and be good all day.

Definitely agree that lying on the beach beds listening to the surf was fantastic.

Definitely bring your water shoes. It was uncomfortable to walk into the water, with all the rock and/or coral underfoot. We didn't bring snorkeling gear, but I suspect that it would have been good around the pier area.
