Pay in full in advance?

Just received an e-mail from Desire saying payment of the balance is due. We are scheduled to arrive 1/28. Seems odd to be asked to pay in full in advance. Also, when I click on button to make the payment, the screen it goes to looks a little suspect. I wanted to call the hotel directly to confirm but don't see a telephone number on their site. Can anyone confirm paying 30 days in advance is normal and does anyone have a contact number for the resort. Thanks!

Yes, payment has always been required in full 30 days out whether you are a member or not. Here are the toll free numbers on the Pearl website :

Toll Free USA: 1 888 201 7551 • Toll free Canada 1 800 655 9311 •

Yes it is standard with Desire to request full payment 30 days in advance of your booking date.

Here is the Desire Pearl telephone number
Phone: dial 011 52 998 872 8060

We were at the Pearl 12/11 - 12/15 and were not asked to pay in advance. Only payment made before arrival was a deposit.

Quote from reservation confirmation email:
"Reservation Policy: One night payment is required as initial deposit to guarantee your room reservations - For bookings made within 29 days prior to the arrival, full payment is mandatory - All Bookings must be paid in Full 30 day’s prior Arrival date (Regular Booking and Promotions)".

But:
"Important Note a) American Express.
All American Express charges are in pesos at the exchange rate of the day and only 1 night deposit will be charged , the balance due should be paid upon arrival presenting Credit Card and ID."

We were at DRM in Sept and we were not asked for full payment until check in, which was very unusual. I thought that perhaps there was some advantage for the resort to bill our credit card in pesos. We are returning next week and we were required to pay 30 days in advance. Perhaps it had something to do with the low occupancy in Sept due to the remodeling of the pool?

It's my personal opinion that you have a higher level of security if you purchase through a travel agent in the US (or Canada) than booking directly with a "foreign" business. International banking rules can differ from what we take for granted here if there is some kind of dispute. That is not to be interpreted as being anything negative towards Desire or the Original Resorts group. Simply a generic statement about international purchases from a person who has had 3 credit card numbers "cloned" in the past 12 months.

We were there in aug and gave a deposit and they told out the rest when we left pearl I though the same that they wanted in full before we left but they said we could pay when we got there so that's what we did but really didn't matter we would of payed if they said so
