Would we fit in?

Folks, I need some advice. My wife (a.k.a The Goddess of Food & Love) and I have been vacationing in St Martin for the past few years. During that time, we’ve stayed at Club Orient and Club Fantastico and rented villas, catering for ourselves and occasionally eating out. This year, The Goddess and I want to try an all-inclusive resort, where we don’t have to feed ourselves or stand in line for happy hour at the beach bar or worry about having one drink to many with dinner when we have to drive home from the restaurant.

We’re also ready for a bit of nightlife after too many years of really chilled out holidays, where our evening entertainment was a bottle of wine and a book. So, an AI resort seems the ideal choice and Mexico an easy to reach destination. As much as we love St Martin, getting there can be a struggle. The problem is, while there are load to choose from, we don’t want to have to go back to wearing clothes. It’s not so much that we’re nudists, it’s more that like we just like to lie naked on a beach. Or by a pool, which we do at home when the weather finally gets warm enough for us to do that.

Now, here’s the thing: while we’re more than comfortable being in the buff with people we’ve never met before, we’ve never encountered serious PDAs anywhere we’ve stayed. The Goddess is a one-guy gal and I’m a one-gal guy. (Fortunately for us, I’m the one guy and she’s the one gal.) And we both really like hot tubs. We like hanging around in them and shooting the breeze with fellow guests but sex has never been a spectator sport for us and I’m not sure how we would react to a load of heavy petting going on around us. Either we’d laugh with everyone else or we wouldn’t know where to put our faces. I think we would have a good time but I don't want to end up hiding out in our room with a good book because we end up feeling uncomfortable.

I’ve had a look at Hidden Beach, which would seem like it would be the place for us but we’re beach people. We like to dig our toes in the sand and spend time bobbing in the surf and I like to get a semi-strenuous swim in each day, to justify the next cocktail and Hidden Beach does not allow that. Add to that the fact that it is ridiculously over-priced and you can see why it’s off the list.

So, here’s where I need the advice. Desire seems to be the only Mexican AI with a nude beach and, from what I have read anyway, it seems Pearl has a more restrained ambiance than Riviera Maya. What I’m trying to work out is: would we fit in?

Desire Resorts are the ideal place to be spoiled it doesn't matter which one you go to. We haven been to the resorts in the Cancun area but have been to the now closed DLC over six times and enjoyed each visit. From what we have read and heard it seems like Pearl is a little tamer the DRM (depending on who is there) so for your first trip into this type of resort Pearl might been your best bet. If you see something that makes you uneasy you can turn away or go to another spot in the spa away from the action. But go and you will not be sorry by the way about 50% of the people there are like you. That is the enjoying laying around the pool/beach nude.

You could stay down by the tame end of the pool and just do the "lie around naked" thing but you'd have to suck it up at the hot tub and be prepared for the possibility. You also *might* have a problem with the beach at Pearl. It's nothing like Orient Beach on St. Martin. Don't get me wrong, it's a tropical beach so it could never be *bad* but it wasn't especially inviting when we were there. Lots of seaweed and the water just didn't seem as spectacular as on SXM and elsewhere in the Caribbean.

Have you considered the resorts in Jamaica? I think one of the Couples resorts has a nude beach area but not the open PDS risk of Desire.

This is one of the things I *like* about Desire over Club Orient frankly - they try to promote the sexy vibe (theme nights, pole dancing lessons, etc.). If you just want to be nude, it might not be a great fit - or at least it may be overkill for you. You can easily distance yourself from anything you aren't into or don't want to see. It kind of defeats half of the reason for going to Desire from my perspective but it could be a fair tradeoff for you if it's closer and something you want to try.

I didn't have the impression that the PDA is "in your face" at Pearl...it's there if you are looking for it, and there definitely will be plenty of it, but it's not like you can't get away from it if you choose. I haven't been on the quiet end of the pool, but it and the beach beds/chairs seemed like they would be right up your alley in terms of "tame vs. wild". There is NO pressure to watch or participate if you don't want, so my advice would be to give it a try!

Just a FYI, the insiders laugh about "Hidden Beach" is that it is frankly unswimable using the beach directly in front of the resort due to rocks and coral build up in the water that extends almost up to the low tide mark -lol

So if you want to swim you will have to put suits on and go over to their sister property the El Dorado right next door - same thing for any night entertainment since there is little to none at HBR.

As others have mentioned the beaches at Desire RM and Pearl are not in the same class as Orient Beach on St. Martin but they are very good and that you can enjoy them clothes free and also swim from them that way.

Frankly, I think if you are looking for a place where most guests like to socialize(unlike vanilla resorts), where you will feel catered to and have the opportunity to do more at night than a typical resort(most usually quiet down by 10pm), then either of the Desire properties would fit you well.

We just got back from our first visit to DP (we had an amazing time) and I think you could fit in no prob at all...but as others have said, the beach is small and covered with seaweed, but its still a beach...its just not spectacular. so if you are looking for a great beach, look elsewhere. The "quiet" end of the pool would work perfectly for your "naked but not having sex or seeing sex" deal. If you never went to the loud side of the pool or the jacuzzi you would never see much if any PDA. When you are in the Jacuzzi, the beds where the PDA is happening are about 4 feet higher than you are in the jacuzzi and about 20 feet set back, so you can't really see stuff all that obvious unless the PDA folks are at the end of the bed showing off their skills or you are making an effort to see whats going on. Plus, most of the action happens at night when its dark. But there is SOME activity in the jacuzzi itself, but much more was in the beds on the side. And don't go into the sin room...its off the back right of the disco.... because people go there for one reason only.

This all being said...not only did we LOVE seeing all the PDA (if you like porn, why not watch live, amateur sex with REAL moans and REAL orgasms etc. its kinda exciting once you get over the initial shock that lasts all of about 20 seconds the first time you see it) after a short while it actually became just another thing happening around us...like a game of frisbee, or beer pong or whatever...You make a mental note: "oh, they are XXXXXX (playing frisbee, playing beer pong, doing the tango, having oral sex...you fill in the blank) and then you go back to whatever you are doing....its no big deal. It just becomes another activity happening around you. and if you don't participate, no big deal!!! Thats the beauty of it. We had ZERO pressure to get involved with anything we didn't want to.

If you want to "lay low" I would also recommend that you stay away from the front row of the nightly shows...some of the acts bring up participants from the front row and pull various clothing articles off of them during the act. Its all in good fun, and basically everyone has seen everyone naked at the resort so its not really a big deal, but I happen to think that people should choose to take their own clothing off when THEY decide to, not when a resort entertainer decides its time for the clothing to come off. But that being said, its not a huge deal under the circumstances.

There is one other reason to go to DP that you can't underestimate.....It can be summed up in two words: FOAM PARTY. Its hard to describe. But it was the most fun a bunch of adults can have in a pool. Just hysterical.

We just got back, and my GF promised she would write the trip report so I won't get too detailed here, but I'll sum up my feelings: The resort is pretty and clean, if not a little dated, the food was very good, the other guests were AMAZING and Nice and fun and smart and funny and respectful (we don't swing and we never felt pressure) and finally, the staff: I can't believe how amazing an entire staff can be. EVERY single one of them. Its simply amazing. They truly made the stay wonderful.

Bottom line: You can fit in, just keep an open mind because you MIGHT see something interesting. Who knows, you might realize its pretty awesome to see that and no one cares. Its part of the atmosphere...as strange as that may seem.

All that has been said is true. We are returning for our 4th time. We are much like you, after ongoing discussion, open talk and some forum chatter about what fantasies we have...I am a one-man woman, and he a one-woman man...with each other. We enjoyed body shots, and will again. The sexy atmosphere is fun and tantalizing, but you don't have to do or watch. We enjoy playing around with each other, and will do much more of that this year! Desire is such a paradise where you are safe with your choices, and no one pressures you to do or say or watch anything you do not feel inclined.

Agreed with what everyone's said so far. While we're not opposed to the lifestyle and have enjoyed it at home, we didn't really fall into the opportunity at Pearl.... so as a one man-one woman couple, we enjoyed each other, and we also got a kick out of the voyeurism aspect, when the opportunity arose. It's all in good fun, and if you're not interested in being a participant, you are for sure not ostracized. All are welcome - judge-free society.

We wondered just how much PDA and PDS there would actually be, and while there was some, it was more just an overall sexy (yet classy) vibe, that worked to make our monogamy all that much more hot.

And thanks for all the 411 on Hidden Beach. We had it on the list as a place to visit in the future, but if there's no swimmable beach, and I'd have to go to a textile beach to enjoy the Caribbean Sea, then I'm not that interested! I thought the beach at Pearl was fine - typical of Yucatan Peninsula beaches, but very unlike the beaches in other parts of the Caribbean. I'd recommend water shoes, because there's no soft, sandy bottom like you enjoy in St. Martin. But, the water is clear and the sea grass is no biggie. Remember that snorkeling will be better when there are more features to the bottom of the seas - so sort of a trade off.

if you would be uncomfortable being around Public displays of sex you would definetly not fit in .....and honestly I have no clue why you would choose to go to Desire if that's your concern.

I echo all of that, except there is little to kn ow PDA at the active end of the pool, except for things like the organized body shot contests on the pool deck, but little to no daytime PDS. The hot tub, sort of depends on the scene...but there are plenty of people naked just talking and drinking in the hot tob and not doing anything else (the majority, IMO,at any one time).

The beach is nothing like Orient Beach. But it's a beach with same and ocean/waves, beach chairs, umbrellas, and naked people. The area in front of the hotel is small (a couple of hundred yards?) and the depth of the beach/sand is small, but it's a beach and if you like hanging out by the beach, as many do, it's fine, IMO.

Overall, there are plenty people "acting normal" just seemingly enjoying being themselves, whatever that is.
