Men Restaurant Dress Code

Postby greatadventure » Sun Mar 29, 2015 7:49 pm

Saw a few posts but still a little unclear...

Can men wear dressy shorts in the restaurants?

Also, re: men's footwear... can men wear nice sandals at dinner also?

Last year one of the couples we met tried to go to dinner with him wearing a nice pair of shorts - he would have been turned away, but for the fact that I was wearing a kilt and it was a costume night so they let it pass. This was in the Asian restaurant...

"ARE THE RESTAURANTS TOPLESS?
Although the restaurants that serve breakfast and lunch are casual and comfortable venues, men are required to wear shorts and women are required to wear a cover-up over their swimsuits. Likewise, shoes must be worn, and no wet clothes are allowed in any of the restaurants of Desire. At night, elegant resort dress is expected when dining at Il Piacere and Suki, including slacks, shirts and shoes for men, dresses or pantsuits for women.

After more than a few visits to both resorts, I'm not exactly sure what the real requirement for Gentlemen is, but for me, I always wear slacks, a jacket, and proper shoes as appropriate.
After all, you're escorting a Lady, howsoever she's dressed. Why not show a bit of class. Shorts? Absolutely not.

"Why not show a bit of class."?? Are you implying that a nice pair of dress shorts, button down shirt and "appropriate" shoes show a lack of class???

You really should think before you type... Your reply shows a little bit of ignorance!

Maybe it could have been phrased differently but I would tend to agree that slacks are "classier" than shorts - regardless of how nice they are (we had a similar discussion about jeans recently). I think it's kind of like the "why are people not naked at the pool" debate. It's not a big deal if a few people are wearing suits but at some point, it starts to color the overall vibe of the place if it skews too far.

I don't really care if *you* (as in any particular person) wears shorts to dinner but I do think it adds to the classy/sexy/upscale/slinky feel of the place when people dress up a bit for dinner so I like the dress code in Pearl for example.

$0.02 please.

Yes,the rephrasing here is better . Thank you TandD

We really don't care what others wear or don't wear any time of day or night.

For dinner, we just like to dress up like we are going on a date (which we are) and to us, shorts are not dressing up for dinner, nor are beach sandals or jeans. But it doesn't spoil our vacation if we see someone not adhering to the dress code for dinner.

I think its a little strange that we run around naked all day then worry about what to wear for dinner. If you want to dress up for dinner and have date night go to the Pearl. I think Aphrodite should be even more casual than it is already (for dinner). This way nobody would feel out of place or think someone else is out of place. I'm sure I'm the odd one but I wish Aphrodite had the buffet out for dinner I'm just not into the 5 course meal every night.

You're not "odd", we've wished there was something like a "snack bar", or grill where you could just walk up and get something quickly rather than a sit-down meal.

I've made what I do, and what I think, clear. That's my opinion. You are entitled to yours. As to your "ignorance" reference, I always prefer to avoid for either myself, or for others, "speaking where they knoweth not."

We will be at Pearl in May for 12 nights, and from what I've read, that's above average for a stay. Andy will need enough outfits to adhere to the dress code in the restaurants. Does anyone know if there is a laundry service offered? The last thing we want is to bring 10+ pairs of full trousers and shirts just for the restaurant. He could probably get away with wearing some a number of times which means we won't need to bring as many, but he's bound to drop/spill something on them, like anything, the more you try to avoid something, the more chance there is of it happening.

See the May gang soon.

I also thought the "lack of class" comment went beyond an opinion, rather devolved to a slap upon those that prefer (and can) look Good in really nice shorts, button (pressed) shirt and dress (shined) shoes. Anyway ... hope you don't get overly upset, while on your vaca, if others demonstrate a "class-less" act and offend you with their awful attire! We're on vaca and about to be naked, for heaven's sake!!

On the theme nights, do we all wear our outfits or are the men and women expected to "cover up" a bit more?
