Let's see... we have been to Hedo 14 times and Desire Pearl 3 times so this might be a question that we can answer.
Hedo and Pearl are both clothing optional all-inclusive resorts beside an ocean. Those are the similarities. Other than that they are almost completely different.
Pearl is far smaller than Hedo. The entire resort is probably smaller than the nude side at Hedo.
While many tip at Hedo there are firm rules against it. At Pearl tipping is done constantly.
The entertainment staff at Hedo do performances every night. The staff at Pearl interact with you. At the end of a trip at Hedo you will probably know the names of many of the entertainment staff. At the end of a trip at Pearl most of the ECs will know your names.
Hedo is a bit like a food court at a mall. Pearl is closer to a classy restaurant.
Men never have a reason to wear long pants at Hedo. At Pearl long pants in the evening are fairly standard.
The rooms at Hedo are, more or less, functional. The rooms at Pearl are far nicer. You have to pay extra for ocean view at Hedo but at Pearl all of the rooms have a balcony or porch along with some kind of view of the ocean. In our opinion the worst room at Pearl is significantly nicer than the best room at Hedo.
The weather at Hedo is more consistent, hotter, and calmer. There is rarely much wind on the nude beach at Hedo while it is almost always windy in Cancun.
There are far more people at Hedo which is both a positive and a negative. As mentioned above there are also singles. In all the months that we have spent at Hedo we have never had a problem with single males so for us this isn't an issue. It just makes for a bit of a different vibe.
Pearl doesn't have a cool pool. We have been to Hedo in May and June when it was very hot and the bubble pool between the Jacuzzi and nude pool was a nice place to be. We can't say what the pool temperature is like at Pearl in the summer but we were at Temptations last July and all of the pools at the resort felt like a warm bath. At Hedo in December the pools are a nice temperatures while at Pearl it was almost too cold to go in. In the winter the night time temperature in Jamaica is much warmer and this keeps the pools from getting cold.
There is no jerk chicken at Pearl.
We always brought a queen sized air mattress with us to Hedo and really enjoyed floating on the calm ocean. That isn't an option for Pearl. There are a few inflatable items in the pool on occasion but it isn't really necessary.
While there are activities during the day at Hedo we are far more active at Pearl. Beach volleyball, pool volleyball, pool basketball, etc.
The gym at Hedo is nicer but both serve their purpose.
The evening routine is much different. One of the best features at Hedo is the nightly entertainment in the dining room. We haven't been there for just over a year but we have always enjoyed the shows. Dinner takes much longer at Pearl and after dinner people migrate to the lobby bar and then into the disco and then towards the jacuzzi. There are more choices of places to be at Hedo- piano bar, disco, main bar, court yard, Jacuzzi.
The food at Pearl is far superior but we have never gone hungry at Hedo.
The quality of the service at Pearl is so far above that of Hedo that it is like comparing apples to wrenches. We always looked forward to seeing some of the staff at Hedo (Delroy, Scumba, Winston, etc.) but that is nothing compared to Pearl.
The nude side at Hedo is... nude. The pool and beach area at Pearl is clothing optional. Most are nude but, unlike Hedo, people don't tend to wander through the resort without clothing.
There are more PDAs during the day at Hedo. If anything is going on at Pearl during the day it is far more discreet.
You don't get to watch the sun set at Pearl.
In a sense they are very different resorts. After spending quite a bit of time at Hedo we decided to try the Desire resorts. We went to Pearl, RM, and Cabo and then tried Temptations. There are things about each that we like but our favorite- by far- is Pearl. We hope to be back for a couple of weeks this December and may have an opportunity to drop by in July as well. At some point in time we may return to Hedo but now that we have fallen in love with Pearl it isn't really something that we are thinking about.
Best wishes!!
