We are making our first trip to Pearl in July and have seen a lot of info related to pre-arranging transfers. Is it really necessary? How much is a taxi ride to the resort? Anybody know? I can understand the convenience of a prior arrangement if you're nervous of the language barrier, etc,. but I speak fluent Spanish so I'm not concerned about that at all. I like the total flexibility of the taxi, I just don't want to find out there was a huge $ difference. I just want to get to the resort as fast as possible, strip in record time and start shedding the white of Alaska and trading it in for the golden color of Desire.

As I recall it's about $75 US from the airport to Puerto Morelos. We have taken a taxi back (from the resort to the airport) and it was about half as much......around 400 MX but that was a few years ago. Hopefully someone can give you more recent info.....

We most always use a private, pre-arranged car as we like the convenience and comfort of it.

USA Transfers is $70 roundtrip. No idea what a taxi costs. There tends to be a slight delay leaving the airport since they have to bring in the car/van from some sort of staging area so a taxi might be quicker in that regard. Coming back, they've always been ready and waiting at our departure time (which is a bit early relative to the flight time).

We tell USA Transfer what time to pick us up. We do not go by their 3 hour prior to departure pick up. Two hours seems to be plenty. It's only 20 minutes with no traffic, max 30 minutes. Still gives us an hour and half to check in and get to gate.

I don't think regular taxi's can pick people up at the airport. We used USA transfers it was quick and easy.

We use USA transfers for pickups from the airport, but we take a taxi the other direction. There is some silliness about what taxis can pick up at the airport so we just don't even bother. We pay very significantly less for taxis than most reports on this board, though I'm not really sure why.

If you're going to book a transfer ahead of time, use USA transfers as they're the best and usually at least match the lowest price available. USA transfers is private and very courteous, prompt and reliable. Highly recommend, and make sure you book them through the forum link to support the boards!

We are also using USA Transfers. They are private and reasonably priced.

Our tour operator has got us using Amstar Mexico for transfers, has anyone else used these and what are they like?

Not 100% sure but I believe this is who we used on our last trip. If so, our transfer was not private. We had several other couples and families that were transferring with us to different resorts. This took about 2 hours because we stopped at several resorts dropping off passengers before we got to Pearl. Plus it was a little uncomfortable being dropped off at Desire with families in the transfer van weh they realize what type of resort they are sitting in front of! We won't use anything but a private service again!

Well it does seem that using the pre-arranged transportation may be the best way to go- if only from an ease of use, no hassles standpoint. Thanks for all the helpful feedback. The sooner I can get there and start the best vacay ever the better! Is the $70 quoted earlier in the feed per couple round-trip, or per-person round-trip?

It's per vehicle. The price structure is $70 for up to three people or $85 for up to seven people. Share a van with your friends and it's practically free!
