How much cash do most people take to the resort for things like the spa, fantasy menu, tips and so on? Big bills, small bill or both.

For general tips I brought $70 per day in 5's and 10's.

$10 day for the room attendant
$10 day for the drink waitress around the pool
$5 for breakfast tip
$20 per day diner tip
$5 bar tip(if I made it there)
$10 per day pool lounger attendant

Plus various-- bellman, etc.

Tips are not required, but greatly appreciated.

We've never used the spa or fantasy menu so I can't speak for that. We usually give $40-50 a day. I bring some 1's but mostly fives and tens.

Thanks for the replies and both are similar to what I was thinking of $75-$100 a day.

You will find a range of tipping from none to the very generous example above. We typically are modest tippers... ie. $1 or $2 for most rounds of drinks, $5 for evening dining, $3-5 per day for maid (standard room, not suite or bigger room). Pool and jacuzzi bartenders tend to miss out due to lack of a convienent place to stash the cash 8) so we make a point to hand them a larger tip toward the end of our trip.

You should tip the way you are comfortable with. You will be treated well where ever you fit into the range!!!

We have heard that tips are pooled each shift. Not sure if within similar job types or across the board.

It was my understanding from the last trip that all service people combine the tips and split them...the that way the swim up bar workers don't miss out....

I was thinking something like this.

$10 day for the room attendant -suite
$20 day for the drink waitress around the pool - we're professionals
$5 for breakfast tip
$10/20 per day diner tip
$20 bar tip(if I made it there) - we're professionals
$10 per day pool lounger attendant

I'm all about tipping (and I do at Desire)... but those tips mentioned above are some high cash tips for an "all inclusive" "tips included" resort!

As new people to Desire I am glad to have seen this thread. I find it helpful that people from both ends of the tip spectrum posted. We tend to not tip by the round, that seems like kind of a pain in the butt. In other situations at similar resorts we make sure to tip the bartenders pretty good each day then small tips at meals from a couple dollars for buffet style where they bring drinks, to a few dollars for actual waiter/waitress service. Part of the beauty of an all inclusive is that we are paying extra to not have to sweat things like meal costs, but it is nice to take care of the people who take care of us.
Nick (and Kitty, of course) tm

Because we pre-booked our tours this year to get the discounts offered I only plan to take $500 cash.

$100 in $1.00 bills
$100 in $5.00 bills
$100 in $10 bills
$200 in $20 bills

This gives me a lot of flexibility with tipping the staff and for haggling with sellers in the open air markets when we take the tours.

If only we could find a way to create a thread about unattended Male-Male couples leaving their clothes on a jacuzzi bed while using their phones to calculate tip amounts, we could probably break Coke's forum server.

I'd cash in $100 at the front desk for pesos, and that would last us a couple of days. This was I didn't have to travel will a ton of small bills, and I felt like a big spender leaving hundreds around for tips! Plus carrying around those pesos made me feel like a Mexican millionaire!
