Hi all-my husband and I are seriously considering Pearl for our 20th wedding anniversary next June. We've never done an all inclusive, much less a CO resort. We are really intrigued and lurking on these boards has helped me immensely. I'm pretty sure we will book for next year but I'm wondering if we "need" one of the upgraded rooms or not? (Master suite/pool, etc) or will just a regular room suffice? Also what kind of activities is there to do (Sex, duh) but I'm talking about non motorized water sports etc, like textile AIs have, or even excursions to see Tulum, etc? (Whether included or fee). Thanks for your help!

two years ago we did Edvenure excursion. found it on trip advisor, it was a great trip to Tulum, zip line, swim with turtles and some more snorkeling. Well worth the money!

Our trips to Desire have been so much fun, we never went offsite...the excursions will just have to wait for a non-Desire trip
Maybe a booze cruise...but just maybe.

We also never left the resort-- just too much fun going on.
We chose the upgraded Junior suite-- gave us a little more space at not a lot more money. We liked the fact there are 4 junior suites on the ground floor- easy in and out !!

IMO no need to upgrade. The smallest rooms are HUGE and the big rooms are TOO HUGE! We were lucky enough to meet up with couples in a number of different rooms. Some of them have their own little hot tub, but I would rather sit with everyone else naked at the big hot tub. Save some money and don't upgrade. You will not want to leave the resort. Everyone there is super fun and you will love spending time with everyone, even if it is just 'talking'. The regular massages are awesome (best I ever had). I hear the happy ending erotic massages are great also....... but the regular couples massage was very very relaxing. You can walk to the down town area via the beach (but last time the wife and I did not even want to do that). My advise, don't book anything. If you get bored, then book something. Be sure to participate in as many things as possible. You guys will have a blast. Both of you should be sure to bring your theme night costumes.

The basic ocean view room is generally good enough. It is larger than a regular size hotel room. Excepted that you want 2 bathrooms that a master suite has, or an additional plunge pool outside your room. You can never be bored at DP, there is so much to do and enjoy. No need to book in advance. If you really get bored book it on site.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We don't normally take relaxing vacations, even on cruises I plan all kinds of excursions. We just came back from Disney with kids in April. So NOT relaxing. I had every minute regimented for the most part, but darn it, we never waited in a line longer than 20 minutes.
I'm a planner and the thought of not having something planned for each day on this vacation is kind of weird for me. (And as I think about it, it's even weirder for me than the thought of being naked for the first time in public!) For my sanity I may just pre-plan one day's excursion, after all, I probably should have some pictures to show the kids! Thanks again!

Just weighing in...a room upgrade is not necessary. We are never in our room except for sleeping and sex, and there is plenty of room for that.
As far as excursions, we go for 5 or six days, and we do like getting off site just a bit. We enjoy walking the beach seeing the local peeps in action, shopping, etc. And last time we were there, we took at cab to Cancun for parasailing. We were back for a late lunch, and it was well worth the money. Other than that, we are happy spending our time with the other guests at Pearl! You do not need to plan anything, however. There is plenty to hold your interest right at Pearl.
And we did our first trip for our 20th too. Went in December, our anniversary is in July. We decided not to count last years visit as our anniversary trip, and booked our "real" anniversary trip for this coming January. We do have the think of an excuse to get there the following year however.

The ocean view rooms are absolutely fine and plenty large enough for us for a two week stay. We've also stayed in the big master suites, but TBH we think the ocean view rooms are just as good, and a lot cheaper. In reality, you won't spend much time in your room - you'll be in the pool, Jacuzzi, restaurants and disco!
Like you, we always plan our vacations down to the last detail, except for Pearl where we just let whatever happens happen. And that, for us, is a big part of the magic. We went on trips from Pearl our first visit. Tulum was good, but we wouldn't recommend Chichen Itza as it's full of cheap vendors and not that well preserved. We went to cenotes and swam - some are good but others very commercialised. And we had a day on the catamaran, which was huge fun - but choose which couples you go with........ The guys from the dive shop will sort all the trips you want, plus diving and snorkelling of course.
There's loads of stuff organised by the entertainment team during the day. If you join in everything you won't sit down from around 10am to 4pm, when everyone will be in the Jacuzzi until around 6pm. Then your evening after dinner from 1030pm to 3am (if you want) is mapped out with the theme nights, entertainment, disco and, perhaps, back to the Jacuzzi. Last year we didn't leave the resort for two weeks, despite promising ourselves we would walk to Puerto Morelos regularly!
We've stayed in lots of textile AIs all round the world and, for the price, we can assure you that Desire is better than most. Truly, the only downside is the seaweed that tends to make swimming in the sea not too attractive. PM me if you would like any specifics.

Do you happen to remember who you used for parasailing? I've been but my husband has never been. Thanks.

I've been to Tulum years ago, but not my hubby. I was thinking Xel-ha or Xcaret or a cenotes excursion-maybe something for a half day. I'm also leaning towards a junior suite. just a bit more room. as for seaweed-I'm not much of a beach swimmer. In cozumel last year (cruise) we went to a day all inclusive (Mr. Sanchos) and i think i stepped in the water just a few times to cool off.-i prefer a pool...or a jacuzzi..
The catamaran cruise sounds fun and so does the pool games.
