My wife is training for her next half marathon while we are at Pearl (august 7-15) how is running on the beach? (hard sand/ soft) from what I remember the roads were all over the place, with pot holes and crazy taxi drivers! Treadmill may have to do.

As an avid runner, I've run the road from DMR to the front gate many times. Hot, dirty, trafficked. The beach is better but the sand is soft. The packed sand at the water's edge is slanted and gets your shoes wet. No good roads to run outside of Pearl. Far too dangerous for a woman running alone. I'd suggest sprints on the beach early before it gets hot, and put the miles on on the treadmill (boring, when everyone else is having fun). My suggestion: run hard in the weeks leading up to your vacation, then take the entire Desire week off to rest the legs

Thanks for the input, no way should would run by herself. Walks to town and treadmill training may be the best choice!

NCVETTE-

Have her do the yoga classes while at DP. Believe it or not, yoga is the best thing a runner in training can do. Get some plastic cups and do shuttle runs on the beach. Jump off the pier and swim around... have a lot of sex :D Taking a week off of running for a half marathon will not affect her training. I really recommend the yoga though. I am training for a Spartan Beast (half marathon with obstacles and 30 burpee penalties for any missed or failed obstacles) and I am looking forward to taking a week off, guilt free!

Thanks kimmanderic, she is not a big fan of yoga? says she gets the giggles. I agree with the time off, but she is running mode right now and doesn't want to break the training routine. Cant blame her, she looks sooooo good!

I ran the seaweed beach, barefoot, going north from Pearl toward DRM. It was difficult sometimes but nicely challenging for the legs and cardio. Could probably run in shoes, better, with a few stops to drop some sand. Safety? Don't know, probably not a woman alone.

The only "running" we will be doing is "horizontally" while at Desire :D
