My wife and I are heading to Pearl for 6 nights starting on August 22, 2015. We are both divers, and wanted some feedback from other who have used the resort dive shop.

We dove the Cenote's when we were at RM. I always wanted to dive the Cenote's, so we found a shop that did it. The pictures of them on the web are really cool. The dives were very interesting. My wife didn't really like going in the caves. I am glad I did it, but not sure we would do it again. After you do two dives, not sure that any more would be that different.
We went with
http://www.cenotexperience.com.mx/ they were AWESOME.

I've used the dive services at DMR, prob not much different from those at Pearl. They take you out for a two tank dive. One is on the reef about 1/2 way between DMR and Pearl, in about 10-15 feet of water, good visibility and slight current. The second was just south of the main shipping channel coming into Puerto Morales, in about 25 feet max. That water was rough, washing machine-type currents, fair visilbilty but not much to see. They will send down a guide with you. Fairly inexpensive, I thought.

we dive and have taken a few trips, caves, day trip to Cozumel and in front of pearl there is a sunken boat at 80-90 feet. the caves are a did it once and done type of experience, a bit of a head trip. the day trip to Cozumel is a bit much even for a six night stay, but I love Cozumel, fantastic for drift diving at 90 feet on a coral reef. you wake up early and have to take the ferry, very modern but it does take up the whole day. I had gone to Cozumel 20 years before so it was interesting seeing the changes. the boat was fun but something of technical dive due to currents and swimming inside the boat. the dive shop there is good and better than some in the area. all in all take your cards and gauge your energy levels. if its your first trip to desire, a nice dive trip is a good decompression from the party. Also take around 200-300 in cash because its the cheapest way to pay for the trip and in case you want to go to Cozumel you will need around 200, don't be afraid to try and bargain. have fun fellow divers.

I have used the dive shop at the Pearl a few times and been very happy. I dive a good bit and worldwide so to me the dive sites were just OK but good for what is there. The shop and personal are very pleasant and helpful. I found the price fair and the ride to the site not excessive.
I dove the reef a few times shallow and what I call a "tourist dive" fun and easy. Another time I dove a wreck further out and deeper with some penetration fun and doable with a guide.
Have fun!

We did a 2 tank dive from Pearl in May. It was GREAT.
first dive was around 75 feet or so. It was a wreck. Lots of fish and cool stuff.
second dive was 35-40 feel along the reef. It had some current, but we saw some great colorful fish.
I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

My wife is a big fan of Cesar at the Pearl dive shop. We dive with him almost every time we go to Pearl. He is a good dive master and has become a friend. The dives near Pearl are easy. We go out at 9 or 10, get in 2 dives and are back in time for lunch, drinks and naked time at the pool.

Cozumel has much better diving but it is more of a time investment away from Pearl then we are willing to make. I liked the Cenotes but my wife said she will not do them again. They were much more like a cave than a cavern dive.
Our flight leaves for Pearl in a few hours. We are going to be there at the same time as another couple that we have been diving with before. Naked diving ??? This is the first time that we are not taking our own gear but there stuff is fine.

Is there a contact or website for Ceaser and the Pearl dive shop? Or do you think we can just show up our first day (aug. 1) and set up a dive course with him and his crew? We just want some introductory dives and a basic cert. for us as well as some enjoyable , easy dives. Ideas?

I have nearly 300 dives in Cozumel and 50 or so from Puerto Morelos. You can dive at the resort but it will be a bit pricey based on what I have looked into. $140 for a two tank dive. Where you go and what you do will likely depend on who else is with you on the boat to dive. You can go off resort to several vendors in Puerto Morelos but it would take all day or a large portion of it to take a day trip to Cozumel. I would suggest a day or two in Cozumel before or after DP. This is how I normally get my diving fix (It is my crack cocaine)
I hate to pay the resort rate and then be gone from it for a day. I have also stayed in PM at an inexpensive hotel for a day or two then transferred over to DP. The town of Puerto Morelos is a wonderful little fishing village that is great to walk around in.
By the way, the diving is 10 times better in Cozumel vs Along the coast on the mainland. FYI
If interested I have friends both in PM and Cozumel who can provide excellent service to divers.

We have been 6 times and dove two of those trips - we used the dive shop there at the resort and it was awesome - we also used an outside company to visit local Cenotes - lots of fun! Only issue was trying to not drink to much the night before the dive - had a bit of a rough dive one time then decided we would save diving for other vacations lol
