Is PEARL still very tame? Same ol' question. ;)

We have been to Pearl and Desire RM and our experience has been in line with the general belief that Pearl is far more tame and it is sometimes difficult to find playmates there compared to Desire RM. However, a couple we met a few months ago claim that Pearl is "catching up" where it comes to sexual play and interactive "lifestyle" couples... so we wonder if any of you have thoughts on the matter. Is Pearl becoming more active than it used to be?

I'll say it before everyone else, it all depends on who is at either resort. We've been to all the Desires several times, the last time we were at RM it was like a vanilla resort. Pearl opened and our first trip was the craziest trip ever and we haven't looked back. And I'm sure others will tell you the opposite and some will say RM is wilder, younger I don't by it for a second, just depends.

Fully agree, all depends. However, our last trip to Pearl blew any theory that Pearl is a quite resort. We had a blast and a 'fun' time and then some. It was in fact far more active and crazy(for us) than any trip to RM, that all have been very good as well. I maintain it is sometimes what you make of it as well. Love them both....

we were at both in July and so as of 2015 id say no. it is the same ol question but it is an evolving situation. in talking to staff, they said rm has a loyal following. folks know what they want. Pearl is nicer and larger. we saw the opposite in all the sterotypes, the crowd was younger and wilder at pearl... but yes, statistically at rm your chances of finding what you are looking for are greater, if that is what you are after. we take a view of no expectations and have a great time.
perhaps pearl is still something of a blank slate and there are young folks without history who are looking for the larger rooms and nicer facilities... or the operators are offering promotions to get people to pearl. whatever the motive, we saw what we saw, not that it really mattered to us, it was fun.
RM will have to deal with several realities in the near future. the hotel next door had construction works in gazing positions all day long. what happens with windows and general clientele. also, the whole facility is getting older. they are trying to keep it nice but when does that pass a tipping point. and did I mention that huge hotel next door?
so wrapping up, I as surprised. also, people mostly stuck to the party line at each hotel. all said the same stereotypes like reading off a script, tame vs. wild. it just not true, pearl is evolving.

Admin Note: I just thought I would jump in here to correct some potential mis information
- Pearl has 88 rooms - Desire RM has 114 rooms, so on any given week there WILL be more couples at Desire RM than at Pearl
- both properties (Pearl and Desire RM) are physically about the same total square footage(just laid out differently) and with Pearl having less buildings it probably "feels" like a large property even though it's not
- Pearl (formerly the Ceiba del Mar resort) and Desire RM (formerly the Bahia Maya Resort) are both approximately the same overall age, both had extensive renovations after the destruction caused by Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
- Desire management has continued to improve both properties year after year as witnessed by the recent addition of the A/C in the Pearl lobby and the complete rebuild of the Desire RM pool and outside restaurant last year

@youme69, thanks for the input and we truly hope to meet you at Pearl on your first few days there later this month! We should be well warmed up by then.

We are definitely hoping for a not so tame crowd. While we are not in the lifestyle, we do want to enjoy our Desire experience to the fullest and push the envelope. Since my wife and I are not the most outgoing folks, a spirited crowd would certainly help. I'm practicing my neutral ice breakers like "hi, where are you from" and "excuse me, would you mind doing a body shot off my wife??"
