My wife is a wine drinker especially after 5. I understand inside each room they provide beer, water and soft drinks. Is their a charge for a bottle of wine besides the normal room charge? Do they serve good wine at the different bars? I realize they serve wine in the restaurants but not sure about the quality in the bars.

I think it would depend on the quality of wine. They have wine by the glass in the restaurants that is included in the resort fee, as well as a separate wine by the bottle list that has prices that get added to your bill.

Wine by the glass in the restaurants, included in the price, is OK and very drinkable. We are always happy with it, but it's what we would call house wine rather than high quality. There are lots of other wines that you can buy from the wine list, but they are rather expensive, at least by European standards. Some of the champagnes are around 350 USD.

The bars, at Pearl, only keep the house wines and some fizzy wines, which are fine especially later at night......! Wine in the room is charged at the standard rate and not included in the AI deal.

The house wines(as of May when we where last there) are from L.A. CETTO and IMHO are quite decent.

FYI - Mexico does not charge duty or import taxes on wine, beer or alcoholic products so you can purchase it anywhere at the same or even better price than you can at the so called airport "duty free" shops.

The closest place to either Desire location to purchase decent wines is in Cancun proper - WalMart has a reasonable selection but if you are look for something special, go diagonally across the street from the WalMart to La Europea which has a great selection.
