Music at Pearl disco ?

We went to Pearl for our first C/O trip in 2014 then went to RM in 2015. We are trying to figure out where to go this year. When we went to Pearl in 2014 the club left much to be desired. I love to dance and dress up for theme nights, hubby obliges and is a good sport. At Pearl the music was mostly techno and the club pretty much cleared out as soon as the show was over. A bit of a bummer for us. Has anyone been there within the past couple months that can tell me what the club is like now? RM played a mix of spanish music, some eminem as well as current hits. Would you say that Pearl is doing the same now?

Thanks!

I would say yes. We just returned yesterday. They played a mix but dance clubs like to play thumping techno too. I think you will like it better though.
On NYE the club stayed crowded but the other nights it emptied out within an hour. Not because of the music but rather people had other things on their minds like going to the Jacuzzi...

In previous threads I was very disappointed in music. We went in Dec and noticed an improvement. Better mix and more people stayed later. Or maybe they stayed later because its cooler than when we usually go in June.

You probably find the music is hit and miss both in the disco and poolside. One reason is that the DJ department is now subcontracted to an outside business. I think that some of them are previous employees but it seems that some days are better than others. When we were there late nov. there was a night when the dance floor was full for the first few songs after the entertainment staff left, good middle of the road, please everyone music. The next was an extremely bad piece of floor clearing crap, and thats the type of music that he kept playing. Maybe one or two couples toughing it out till the place was empty after an hour. I asked him if he cared wether people got up and danced and he just shrugged.
Next night was great, I think it was the owner of the company playing the pool and disco music.
Unfortunately, most people don't express their disappointment to the staff or on the check out questionnaire so as far as the staff know, everything is good (they leave the disco after the nightly show to go get some rest).
Normally this would not be an issue for us because Desire is the only time we go to a disco. It is just awesome seeing the sexy ladies do their thing on the dance floor while wearing some of the hottest outfits (or not  ) you will ever see at a resort. It's a drag when this gets cut short because some 25 year old wants to play the stuff he likes regardless of the guests reaction.

We have enjoyed the DJ's selection of dance music more at RM than at Pearl but the DJ's have always played our music requests in a very timely fashion. If you want them to play something, all you have to do is ask. But if you give him a whole playlist, that might be a different story. :D

Not our experience. The DJs were happy to play our requests both by the pool and disco. Just ask them!!

Only been to Pearl once, last September. The DJ was ok, played some mainstream dance music. But was happy to play requests for us also. We dance for hours every night and had a blast!

The music in October 2015 at both Pearl and RM were rather questionable to the wife and I. Now I love music... consider myself an audiophile and I am typing this in my dedicated audio room right now..... So maybe I am a music snob. Also I used to be a DJ during college. The biggest problem (at Pearl) is the music is just too loud! Now understand, I do like loud, clean, crisp music... but i suspect the club to be well over 105 Decibels maybe even 110... Making it very unpleasant. Also the speakers are poorly placed making un-uniform sound staging with too much volume variances through out the club. They need to have an audio expert to optimize speaker placement and teach the DJs volume limits to keep everyone happy. (I will gladly volunteer my services for a free night stay:-)

As for the music selection... I would rate it from poor to mildly good. They should just do a simple google search of top current songs. A lot of the stuff is old 'cheesy' songs, like "celebrate" by kool and the gang. Last April the DJ a Pearl let a German guest took over the DJ controls for a pretty long time. He was able to get the club jumping. So don't be afraid to ask to 'take over'. But make sure you know what you are doing.

We were there in April when the "German Contingency" was there. That evening was by far our most enjoyable time in the disco out of four trips to Desire. >:/

Why? What made it more enjoyable. What did the Germans have to do with it? We need details.

Our trips to Pearl were May and October 2014 before doing RM in May and October 2015. We much preferred the Pearl dj. Main reason was he played our type of music (edm, house, trance = what some people would call techno) but also because he would take requests and then actually play them! At DR we found they would take the request and not play them and the songs were more of a mishmash of redone US music poorly. But if someone decided they didn't like the 'techno' they could request their music and he would play it. We would encourage others to make requests as it isn't a good party unless everyone is having fun. They even had a request white board at the pool which was awesome. I am wondering if they changed the dj or stopped the request process based on the above feedback???

On all of our trips to Pearl the DJ had no problem play our requests in a very timely fashion. Even the 'older' stuff like 'Pitbull" and 'LMFAO' .
