Can anyone tell me how Verizon cell service works at Pearl. Also is the WiFi in the room good enough to support Skype? Want to leave it all at home but unfortunately run a business and have to be in touch at least once/day.

cant help on Verizon. My skype works great at both resorts. Some spots have better wifi than others but you will find good signal somewhere in room and in the resort. We call back to states 2x a day using facetime and skype and never had issues..even from the oceanfront porch at pearl

Verizon works fine. Add Mexico before you leave. I think the extra charge is around $15 for a couple of weeks... Service is fine :D

Hello,

We were there this last November, first week of Nov. to be exact, and we used Skype via the Pearl's WiFi network. We have two little ones and my wife wanted to be able to check in on them while we were away.

We are Verizon customers and we both have fairly new smart phones but we were told by Verizon that we didn't have "World Phones" and that we couldn't add calling to Mexico and back to our plan. Verizon told us we'd have to upgrade our phones to add that feature.

Instead of the upgrade we figured we'd try Skype instead, and it worked flawlessly. I even paid a little extra and bought a number with our home area code so the kids could call us if needed. I think in total it was under 15 bucks, for both the local number and a huge pool of minutes. The only time we made calls was right before going out for dinner, otherwise our phones stayed in our room. Hopefully you won't be on your phone much, the Pearl has plenty to keep your thoughts away from home and work.

The Pearl's WiFi service was excellent and making/receiving calls with Skype worked perfect. I highly recommend it.

Skype is a great way to go, but Verizon works for us. I just used my Android (Samsung S5). Verizon has in the past given me some bum information. Years back they convinced me to buy a new "international" phone for BIG bucks when travelling to Jamaica for a couple of weeks. In addition to the phone you buy a Sim card for the country you are travelling to. While I was making my first call back to the states on my international phone my regular phone rang in my bag!!! Worked for the whole trip
:D

I wanted to update this, Verizon has a new plan you can add called Travel Pass it cost nothing (on your plan) when in the states when you land and turn your phone on you get a text that it's activated. Costs $2.00 for 24 hours max and your phone works off your plan just like at home.
Say you use your phone at the resort the day you get there $2.00 all day then turn it off for two days (no charge) then turn it on the fourth day $2.00 so if you leave it on all 5 days $10.00 max.
When you return goes back to no charge on your plan.
Check it out
