Cigar Friendly???

We're packing for our first trip to DP next Sunday. We're VERY unfamiliar with DP or any CO/LS Friendly resorts. We usually spend most of the day at beach rather than than the pool and I enjoy smoking cigars. I consider myself a very considerate cigar smoker and never smoke in crowds and always willing to skip it if the smoke bothers anyone close. I'm wondering if I need to pack my cigars or will the small, cozy size of DP make it difficult to smoke without being a bother?

It will be impossible not to be a big bother to some. Your kindest action would be to walk down the beach a ways where there is some empty space and the off-shore breeze will blow the smoke onto vacant lots.

I always bring cigars. Usually have one with a bloody marys in am. Seems like the day gets away from me after that with other things. I like to enjoy them on my patio outside the room

I will make a mental note to keep our windows and doors closed. So much for my morning yoga on my patio.

I wouldn't smoke that early or that close to other rooms. I never got into morning cigars. (Sounds very relaxing though). I usually start the day healthy with meditation, a little paddle boarding and exercise and slowly lead into drinking and smoking etc., as the day progresses. As much as I enjoy a cigar, I wouldn't want the aroma while I worked out or meditated either.

While we are not smokers and tend to be a bit annoyed/offended by smoke in our faces, if you are considerate as it sounds you are, I really don't think you will have any issues. You too deserve to enjoy what makes you feel good .... it's Desire! Perhaps a really great place for a cigar, for you and others, would be the pier. It's very nice/peaceful out there and you would be 100 yards+ from others. Thanks for your concern for others and enjoy!

Desire2424,
Thanks for being considerate and asking. As others mentioned, just a few yards either side of the resort puts you on the beach in front of vacant land where you can relax, indulge, and escape those of us who are greatly bothered by cigarette and cigar smoke. Unfortunately, smoking on your patio results in the aroma filling the neighboring porches and often drifting in the doors and windows. We have been on the receiving end of thoughtless smokers before, resulting in breathing difficulties. We want everyone to have a good time, but not at the expense of others.
I know you'll find that quiet spot, do your own thing, and then join the rest of us for drinks. As with every trip to Desire, I'll buy the first round. XL

No need to light up where it might be nuisance. We're 1st timers and I just looked at the overhead view of the resort and I now see how much open beach surrounds the resort area. Nice spot for a stroll and smoke. Thanks.

Thanks so much for being so considerate. It is greatly appreciated and thank you for asking the question.

You may find there will be others who are not so considerate.

We'll see you there! :D

Oh, and just for the record,if the smoke does bother me ( I am a reformed smoker) I will be the one that removes herself from the area. It's a good excuse for me to go for an enjoyable walk around the resort or a walk on the beach.

We just returned last week. We enjoy a cigar from time to time also. We just went down to the beach, saw which way the wind was blowing and went down to the leeward side. Never a problem, Quite a few cigarette smokers throughout the resort and smoking is permitted in any of the open areas. They sell Cuban cigars (real, not imitations) in the gift shop along with butane lighters.

Hope that helps
