Scotch at Pearl?

Can any fellow Scotch / Bourbon drinkers share what choices I will have when we arrive in November? I realize we are probably not going to get any exquisite single malts but I was hoping perhaps for maybe a Balvenie or Black Label. Thanks in advance for your replies.

In our past visits to Pearl the bourbon choices have been below the equivalent choices for teauilla or vodka or anything sweet. The outside bars had Jack, Jim Beam, and possibly Makers. I'm not a makers fan so I'm struggling to remember that one. Inside the lobby bar they have those plus Wild Turkey which I discovered to be better than expected. The staff noticed me going back and forth and sent a bottle of wild turkey over to the pool bar for me. My personal bourbon preference is for blends like Bulloit, Woodford, and surprisingly 4 roses ain't bad for a well brand.

Since our last visit I have started drinking a few scotches. I would also like to know what choices they have for scotch. I would expect Dewars and maybe Johny Walker red and double black. I think JW Black would be above the grey goose level pricing they tend to stop at. I think I read there may be some premium choices available for a fee and I know you can bring your own bottle and have them keep it behind the bar for you. I have done that on ocassion. Does anyone remember if there is an airport liquor shop after taking your bags through customs? I've been meaning to try JW Blue and it might be nice to splurge on a bottle for the trip.

There is indeed a post customers liquor store on the way home of course but none on the way out anymore. There isn't any real bourbon at the resort so it is JD and Jim B so bring your own if you're desperate!

Hi,

How much liquor can you bring in from the US?

Thanks,

1 litre - basically, 1 quart each - you can bring more but you need to declare it and then pay duty.

Actually each adult(over 18yrs old) is allowed to bring in up to a maximum of 3 liters without duty or penalty.

Just to make sure I understand this, are you saying that there is no liquor store available at the airport for arriving visitors to Cancun?

There is a liquor store just as you exit the immigration area at the entrance to the baggage claim. I've bought bourbon there (Woodford Reserve). As I recall, the prices were reasonable.

Awesome! We want Bacardi Sliver and Captain Morgan for our room bar. I know we can get it at the resort bars but it's convenient to have it in the room. I was not planning on bringing any with us and was counting on stocking up at the airport.

Exactly, we do that every trip, we just bought a bottle (1 liter) of Malibu Black for our room as my sexy wife likes to have a cocktail while getting ready or if we host a small get together in our room. Anyway, like I posted above, we were there in early March and it was there. Yes the prices are very reasonable!

Thanks for the great replies. You never know when you will or will not get responses on a thread. I will stop at the airport store on the way out to get a room bottle as well as a pool bottle.

For the person who commented on Four Roses, I agree that it is a surprisingly good Bourbon and a staple in my liquor cabinet.

Thanks for all the replies. We are headed there in 10 days and I plan to buy a few bottles at the airport.
Jnlforeplay: seems we have similar taste in liquor. It was Belvine 14 and Black Label that got me to enjoy scotch. In addition to 4 roses in your bar bulliet is a must. I'll let you know how my airport recon works out.

Last year at Pearl, there were a few, pretty good Scotch options: J&B, Chivas, and Johnny Walker Red or Black. I did see my favorite, Glenfiddich, but it was at extra cost. As we will return to Pearl a week from today, it would be great to get a Scotch report from someone that is at the resort right now! Cheers ....

We were there a week ago, JW Black is available at lobby & disco bar. Grey Goose available at all bars, but they run out nightly. Don Julio available also...drinking all day made me enjoy the shots, even when you don't shoot tequila! I brought a bottle of my preferred, but going back to the room was a pain...plus didn't want to miss anything!
